16" wheels on E430 ?

For better ride and comfort I want to go to 16" wheels on my 2000 E430 4matic. It came with 17" but the wheels keep bending every time even if there's a minor pot hole. I've replaced wheels numerous times and have finally decided to go with 16" hoping it will be a better setup.

Can I fit the w210 E320 16" or the w211 E320 16" wheels on the E430 ?
thanks in advance

Benz300, best to use wheels with the same offset (ET number) and probably V-rated higher profile tires to better simulate the larger wheels and lower profile tire combination. That way the suspension will perform as designed.

while the stock 17" wheels look great, the roads in NJ arent so forgiving with it's potholes. and I've already changed wheels twice as they were bent. I wanted to know if i can switch to 16" E320 oem wheels without any clearance issues on the E430 4matic.
thanks.

Benz300, refer to your Owner's Manual for specific wheel information. The Owner's Manual for our 1998 E320 (a 210 car) lists the following for the E430:

Sport Package: 7 1/2J x 17H2 wheels (35mm offset) with 235/45ZR17 tires

w/o Sport Package: 7 1/2J x 16H2 wheels (41mm offset) with 215/55HR16 tires

Recommend using only genuine MB wheels rather than an aftermarket wheel. I have the 16" E430 wheels on our 1998 E320 and they are much easier to clean than the stock 16" E320 wheels.

update:
so I bought a set of 16" wheels and tires from another owner of CLK 320, put them on the front and they won't fit.
turns out the E430 with 4matic cannot accept wheels smaller than 17".... due to larger front calipers....
I guess no 16's for me....

Pics of the wheels you bought? Might be interested in them.

Benz300, check the Owner's Manual for your 2000 E430 4Matic. It will specify what size wheels fit your car. Or, call the Parts Department at your local MB dealer. There is a considerable amount of detailed information in the Owner's Manual that allows one to take full advantage of that car's design features.

By the way the Owner''s Manual for our 1998 E320 lists both 16" and 17" wheels for the E430 with no mention that the 4Matic requires 17" wheels to clear the brake calipers. I guess it's possible MB went to larger brake calipers on the E430 after the 1998 model year.
