1985 300SD//Tire Rack Rims
Hello all--
So, the car has 18", I'm guessing, rims on it with some low profile rubber. Giving the car to my daughter and needing to get it back to some resemblance of stock tire.....for economy sake. She won't be able to afford replacing the rubber sizes on there. The Tire Rack fit guide puts me on either a 15" or 16" rim. How's the ride on the 16" rim? |

16';s offer a good blend of ride quality, sport handling and stylish appearance

With 16's, you'll have to go with 60 series tires or the diameter will get too large.
The ride is a bit compromised when compared to 15's with the 65 series. I'm a bit biased against the ride on the W126, so, personally, I'd never use anything larger than 15's on it. Some folks claim that the 16's ride perfectly fine...........so, in reality, it's all a matter of personal taste. Also, keep in mind that the condition of the roads has quite a bit to do with your opinion of the ride. Here, around NYC, the roads are miserable...........especially the expressways.............so, the feeling about the lousy ride is reinforced. |

I would advise him to go ahead with 16” rim. Everybody is of the view that 15” is not comfortable especially if you are going for long rides. But from my personal experience I can say that 16” is far more comfortable than 15”. In the beginning I was using 15” rims but finally I changed to 16”.
