2000 SL500
I am looking to go back to original tires and rims for my sl. they are 245/45/17 5x 112 bolt pattern. However when checking sites like e-bay etc for good used say AMG wheels.........how do I know they will fit. Dealer tells me I have to get part # and call them. If they are knock-offs they won't have a MB part #. So what other numbers can I use to determine if they will fit ? For example I got a line on some AMG wheels. They are off a 1989 300CE (i think). Numbers underside are VIA690KG, M06817; 8Jx17h2.....whatever they mean ! So would they fit ? Any help to this rim ignorant guy would be appreciated.
Secondary question, Tirerack locations.....do they just sell or do they install. I am in Canada, closest location would be port huron michigan, are there store locations there.....I know there is discount tire which have been good to me before. Thanks |

I use Tire Rack's web site a lot for crosschecking sizes on different cars. Their locations (i'm thinking only 4 or 5) can do installs. Check their web site, but i think the nearest to Port Huron would probably be South Bend, IN (Luke's home store)
They also have a network of installers you can have wheels and/or tires shipped to. As an alternative, if you're buying wheels and tires as a package--you can have them shipped to you already mounted and balanced, put them on just like changing a tire x 4.

moneyguy, check your Owner's Manual for the stock size wheels and tires for your 2000 SL500. All genuine MB wheels have the Star logo on the back plus the size and ET (offset), as noted in the Owner's Manual.
Tire Rack sells aftermarket wheels. Recommend staying with genuine MB wheels which are hub-centered.

According to the Mercedes wheel catalog, an R129 with 17-in wheels for sure uses 245/45-17-in tires and the wheel offset required is ET34 and width is 8.25.
There are no AMG wheels in 17-in size for this car in the catalog. There are three styles shown in the catalog, with one variety available in two finishes, making it four choices. They are Ceginus (sterling silver) B6 647 0061 Ceginus (high sheen) B6 647 0084 Albali B6 647 0541 Sador B6 647 0542 Ceginus is 6-spoke (EVO II) design, the others 5-spoke. http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/mercedes_alloy_wheels/sl_class_r129_alloys/17_mercedes_ceginus_wheel_718 http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/mercedes_alloy_wheels/sl_class_r129 _alloys/17_mercedes_ceginus_wheel_719 http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/mercedes_alloy_wheels/sl_class_r129_alloys/17_mercedes_albali_wheel_720 http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/mercedes_alloy_wheels/sl_class_r129_alloys/17_mercedes_sador_wheel_721
