Yokohama AVID ENVigor -- Opinions?

It's that time again and I am considering these based on positive TireRack reviews.

Anyone here use them?

pretty decent all around tire ... I haven't had an opportunity to drive them in the snow yet though. Snow will be the real test as it's predecessor was pretty weak in the wintery stuff

I have them up front now. They handle well and actually look very nice too.

I have Pirelli P6s on the rear, which I will be replacing with more ENVigors after they wear down a bit more (too much tread left to discard at this point).

Pro:
They look nice.
Decent stability at highway speeds.

Cons:
They howl at 35 mph and over.
Horrible in snow. They grab and let go unpredictably.

I would go with BFG Advantage next time.

They definitely look great. But howling I have not heard; they are very quiet. I did see a few comments on TireRack about tire noise but most others said they were not noisy at all. Must be vehicle-specific.

Not much chance of snow in South Bend, IN this week!! We're headed over to the SB Silverhawks game tonight, should be a balmy +94f by game time.

On the topic of road noise--my wife never knew her old tires (factory Bridgestone Turzanas on a Scion xB) screamed, the MP3 is always way toooo loud to notice. She could run studded snow tires in the summer and not hear road noise. We switched to Potenzas on 18" BBS rims last spring and i really like that car now--fun little thing to drive with a 5 speed!!

OK – had my center muffler replaced this past weekend and with the exhaust leak drone gone I will concur: These tires are very audible on surfaces that are not smooth.

Smooth asphalt: Dead Silent.
Concrete or rough asphalt: You can hear every detail of the road surface.

I will nonetheless go ahead and add them to the rear since it is not an annoyance, I don’t mind the additional sensory feedback and, with the radio or A/C on, it is not noticeable.

Question here guys: won't any tire be audible on rough pavement? I recently replaced Michelins with the AVID ENVigors and I'm delighted by how quiet they are on my W124.

Yes.

With the ENVigors it seems the pitch, and not necessarily the volume, that is different.

Also, I am in need of new engine mounts. It is possible the tire noise I am hearing is largely the result of engine vibration on the frame.

Followup

New mounts are in and I will confirm that these tires are just as quiet at any other. Noise I hear previously was not entirely related to them.

i have these tires currently,i like them, there great all weather tires, very good traction in light snow, excellent grip in rain and of course dry conditions where they are most assertive.these tires are pretty quiet.mine are a treadware of 550 traction A temp A 195/65/r15. these tires are also 100% American made. 1 rate them a 7 out of 10 all around performance levels.

Generally, the quality of the tire won't be as evident when the tires are new as, generally speaking, anybody can make a good tire when it's new. The quality of the tire will show up when the tire is 50% or more worn. And in my experience, Michelins are the best in remaining quiet, smooth, good wet weather handling, etc for the duration of the tire, not just the first 50%.
