Quick tire question
Okay, okay, don't get mad at me! I know this post should go on the Tire forum, but this forum has more eye traffic. I have a 1990 190E with 15" Mich. MXV4 Energy 185/65 tires. This person is selling a set of 15" Pirelli 195/65 tires that originally belonged to a 1998 E-Class. I need to know if this set of tires will fit PERFECTLY (with no adjustments whatsoever) on my 190E before I buy them sometimes soon--like tomorrow! So I need to know real quickly.
Also, what's the difference between my 185 and this 195? Thanks in advance! ) |

My best guess...
Hey Cossie,
Here's my best guess...according to a site I sometimes refer to (www.autotrixx.com) a 1990 190E should take a 195/65 x 15 tire. So it seems like the switch that you'd like to make is all right. Maybe the 185/65's that you have on now are a little undersized. I'm not sure. And here's my stab at your other question. A 185 tire is 185mm in width. A 195 tire is 195mm in width. Which makes the 195 tire 10mm, or approximately .4 inches wider than the 185. If it were me, I'd probably go for it and try the bigger tire. Hope this helps,

Re: Quick tire question
Sorry for responding so late. I hope this reaches you in time.
I have experience with 190 tire sizes and in the 15 inch rim. I believe the 195 60 vr15 fits the best for a non-modified non-lowered car. Originally, they came with the 185 65 15 as you are aware and the closest match is the 195 60 15. I tried the 195 65 15 and found the car sat too high in the front. It will fit, but not the best. I took mine off after 1 month, they bothered me too much. Also, I put some Michelin Pilot 205 55 vr15 on last year and they were by far the best I ever used. The handling was incredible, and I was able to bury the needle completely for the first time. The tire looked a little bulbous (rounded) because my rim wasn't wide enough to accomodate that size tire. I got the tires for an incredible deal and they were worth every penny. Now, I use the 195 60 15 and are the best fit overall comparing to factory specs and have lasted a long time and are better priced than the 205 55 15 and there are many brands available in this size. Hope this helps |

Also, if the original tire size was 185/65, and you replace with a 195/65, there will be a proportional error on the speedo and odometer due to the larger tire diameter.

philipminion -- if 205/55 fit (little short, weren't they) and a 195/65 fit, wouldn't you think that a 205/60 would fit? I mean FIT with no rubs at all.
