Proper MB wheels for W124 (not 500E)

Take a look at the following wheels on ebay.

One is a 16x7.5 ET41 and the other a 16x8 ET37.

I bet the 16x8 ET37 would fit fine due to the 37mm offset.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=601077224&r=0&t=0

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=601087965&r=0&t=0

Moreover, they are both factory Mercedes wheels.

I have no interest (financal or otherwise) on these wheels.

Good luck,
:-) neil

Real offset !

I checked those wheels too ! I was interested on the 16X8 and called the person who has them for auction.

They are brand new and with the original cases from MB. He is claiming that they have 37mm offset but they are really 36mm.

No big difference at all.

They are nice and somebody could upgrade the look of any C or E class for few dollars. Don't know the reserve price on this set of wheels but he told me that he was expecting at least something around $380.00 for them.

Let's see if someone is lucky with them !

Those 16x8's can be found for $100.00 a wheel from discount tire.

they are 16x8 et36 and show up as a proper fit for a w124 car. Including my coupe.

I spoke with discount tire today and this is what I found out.

Wheels $100 per wheel plus tax.
Chrome Valve Stems - $3.50 a piece
Lug Nuts $2.00 a piece
Freight per wheel $5.00
Balancing $8.00 per wheel

Total cost for 4 wheels with my original tires mounted and balanced, but they don't do alignment which is fine, (I will have my mb tech do that anyway) Total cost is...

$545.11

Now an alignment should range from $50-$100 I would think for a proper 4 wheel alignment. so figure total cost is in the neighborhood of $600.00 - $650.00

He did mention that my 205/55/16's would be a stretch on those 16x8's. Since I don't want to buy new tires yet, I figured it would still be ok to use the 205/55's for a while.

What is your thinking Neil? How about you luke? Just trying to get an idea here. I have a client who can get me wheels for cheap as he is an auto dismantler, and I am going to contact him about wheels, but I figured I would find out about these wheels as I like them and will most likely get them.

They are called Mercedes Style D.

I'll keep you guys posted. The numbers looked good to me for those on a budget like me.

I might just go for the muffler upgrade instead and do the wheels later. We will have to see.

Alon- I think the 16x8 ET34 is too wide. However, ET 37 or ET 36 could be a better fit, and you can install 215 or 225 rubber (at least in the rear).

If you can, get ONE wheel, and try it on. If they are used from a dismantler, then get a tire stuck on, and try it on the front & the rear.

Better yet, why don't you enlist those sorority sweetarts/hearts and see which wheel looks best.

hehe neil..

I am working on the sorority girls as much as possible, but I am trying to be a proffessional, so I am being careful around them. to not be too flirtatious or forward with them...

But for wheels, I really like them. I have pasted them onto the car. check out http://www.a-p-group.com/ashman/MercedesAutumn.jpg

That link should work.

Thats a general idea. I like em. with the new silver caps with chrome stars, they should look very nice indeed.

I am still unsure about the 205's on the 16x8's the guy said they would bulge or be a tight squeeze not sure exactly what he meant, but I assume the tires would have the sidewall being stretched slightly. I am not against getting new tires at all, My business will pay for the tires, but I would rather wait for the next 5k miles if I can until the rears are fully worn. and then splurge on 4 new tires as the fronts have about 10k left in them... and I can then go for 4 matched tires.

Maybe Right now, I should just get the Remus Rear Muffler from perf products and enjoy the car. But man do I want new wheels. I hate my wheels witha passion. In fact they were almost a deal breaker on the purchase of the car when I bought the car... But the guy dropped the price a bit more and well I was then sold...

I'll toy with my ideas and see.

Alon- have you considered these factory MB wheels:

They are 17x7.5 ET37, they fit the W124 series well (except 500E), clear 500E calipers, and are very strong and light.

Moroever, a 225/45R17 tire fits perfectly and under the fenders in the rear. No sticking out with 8-inch wide rims.

I got mine from www.wheelexchange.com
About $200 more than your budget.

Neil, You bastard!!! hehe I love those rims to death. Mercedes styling "E" if I am correct, the same ones Mbenz has, and the ones that you have which are amazing looking.

I was leaning more towards 16" Because I like the way my car rides,a nd I like tire prices for 16's vs 17's.

But if I was going with 17's, you can bet yer ass it would be those.

I am going to do the muffler and go for the wheels after tax return comes in.

You have me convinced to save for the 17's!!!!!

heeh I just re-read your post neil and saw you asked what sorority I am working at.

I am doing the network cabling and DSL line installations for Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. As well as their computer service work as needed.

Its a lot of fun working in their house as these girls consider me a god because of what I am doing.. But I don't know if thats a good thing or a bad thing. hehe But in all seriousness, I take the job seriously, and have not put any moves out on the girls yet. I am trying my best to remain a proffessional on the job site.

But besides that. I am going to wait and save for those mercedes wheels like yours. They are really nice, and I hadn't thoguht about those ina while until you mentioned it. Thank you for making up my mind for me. hehe

I'm now working on getting a new rear sportier muffler. The Remus from perf products is actually not the price in their catalog, it was a mis print. so I am having a friend of mine work on prices for me on mufflers... I figure he can get me a decent one installed for around $150...

Speaking about mufflers...

Hello Alon,

May I give you advise on your search of a affordable muffler for your car ?

I just installed an Arospeed muffler in my 300E and I am very pleased with it. As a matter of fact it was Adam Bourassa who refered me to this particular brand of mufflers.

It cost me 125.00 dollars and I bought it direct from the manufacturer in Florida. The installation was done by a professional guy in San Pedro, CA who told me that it was a very good quality.

You can get more information about this brand from the following link:

http://www.benzsport.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=15&t=000002

Hope this will help you !

Alon- Dsantos mentioned using a stainless-steel magnaflow. Check out the thread here:
400e exhaust. Sounds GREAT

KKG, eh. I've know a few in my life. Never did the FRAT thing, but worked at 4-different sororities (ADPi; DDD; PiPhi; KATheta) and always got invited to the parties.

Just remember- NO PLUMBERS CRACK when working.
You've GOT to ask them- what's a formal like? PROM? or better? You'll be asked . . .

neil, thanks for the tips.. hehe

I have been looking at arospeed at JC whitney. found I like the one with the dual rectangular oval tips. $120 at JC Whitney plus shipping of course.

Otherwise I discussed with my muffler guy a stainless magnaflow. either way, I figure around $200. I'm going to check into the magnaflow.

I don't want a loud sound. But I want it to grumble at idle and be fairly quiet at speed. hehe

My brother had a magnaflow put on his range rover. his truck is so loud and sweet sounding, but thats what he wanted. hehe

I'm going to check into both magnaflow and arospeed. they said anywhere from $60-100 for install. sound good to you?

The price sound's right. Keep the center resonator for low-end torque, and to keep it quiet. If you want it more aggressive, then remove the center resonator with some loss of low-end torque.

Alon,

Just for your numbers I paid $100.00 for the installation. Again this was from a professional guy that did an incredible job.

I kept the center resonator and they replace all the piping from it to the muffler of my car. If you like I can send you some pics from my muffler, I think I've got the same model you are looking for.

Let me know !
