Tire Noise/Wheel Question

My 2000 SL 500 (just bought with 7500 miles on the clock) came with a set of Michelin Pilot SS MXX3s.
I find that the car has a considerable amount of road noise entering the interior and I'm wondering if this is a tire problem, or a genetic part of the car itself.
Also, I'm contemplating a new set of rims and wonder if the MB versions from the TireRack and original AMG or replicas - if replicas, are they any good, or am I buying myself a problem?

the car should not have a significant amount of noise so, it very well could be the tires.

Our AMG wheel selection is true AMG product
no replicas here

Thanks, luke

If you have take standard 245/45/17 size, the Yokohama W-rated AVS Db ($144 each from Tirerack) are amazing silent (thus the "Db" in the name). I'm using the V-rated version on my daughter's 420SEL and, like other board members ( see http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-benz-wheels-tires/ and do a search for Yokohama), have been very happy with them.

You may be able to save the expense of wheels by just switching tires.
