Odd issue with some Dunlops from the TR

Hi,

Ive bought many tires from the tire rack in the past. I got a set of P195/70HR14 Dunlop SP Sport A2s for my 1983 300D. I got them mounted at the local tire place, and all was fine. Ive actually gotten these same tires for a minivan in a larger size. However, then I noticed that on all four tires, there ws no treadwear rating, traction or temperature grades. I was quite suprised to see this, as it is most definitely on the sidewall of the other set. After looking at it a bit closer, it loos like the numbers (which should read 420, AA, A) appeared to be scratched off of the sidewall. If I looked very closely, it seems like there are fine scratch marks, like they were carefully sanded off. Everything else was fine, and the stickers on each tire had the values, but it was just really odd that such a thing showed up.
Is the tire rack not allowed to sell tires with their ratings branded on there? Maybe they are not allowed to validate warranties, so they cant have the treadwear number on there, and so they scratch all the values off? Is this an issue with this one lot of tires?
The only thing I know that is different from all the other sets of tires Ive gotten is that I had this set shipped to my home instead of drop shipped to an installation place.

If anyone has any ideas about why the values are removed as they are, Id appreciate to know them. I cant immagine it makes the tires less safe or roadworthy, but I still are curious, and they should be there, as they are on my other set of these tires and any other tires I have ever gotten.

Thanks for your time,

JMH

Why not call luke @ Tirerack and ask him about it.

It sounds weird to me that they would be sanded off. What reason would there be. Maybe it was a manufacturing issue?

I would definately call and find out.

It was most likely a problem with the mold and Dunlop did that to correct a
minor visual imperfection.
