15" Steel Rims

Are vintage wheel covers available for 15" steel rims? Are they as rare as 15" bundts?

Were the 15" steel rims from the earlier models with the small center caps? I have not come across the full wheel covers in 15", they all seem to be the 14".

But Iam ready to learn something new about these MB`s.

I've seen 15 inch hub caps for the W116 / W123 / W126 style steel wheels advertised may be twice in three years. They are always very expensive. They are about as rare as the US supplied aluminium version of the steel wheels over here.

I see adverts for the 15 inch bundts may be once every two months...

...that's how it is in Holland. (I generally ignore ebay for this sort of thing as the sellers tend to be out of the country and so the shipping is always the deal breaker - even coming from Germany)

The early pagoda SL's had center caps, I think mounted on three knobs welded to the wheel and beauty rings, like my fintail was with the 13" steelies. Except the fintail had no beauty rings just the center caps and painted wheel. Body color IIRC.

Metal 15" caps similar to the common '70s 14" caps came on the LWB 115s and 123s. I suppose on the W100s as well. There are plastic 15" caps from 124s, 126s and later models available on eBay from time to time. I have a set of plastic 15" caps from an early 124 that I might be convinced to part with since I haven't found a set of 15" steelies in 124 or 202 offset.

The set I have is like this - Mercedes Metal Steel Wheel Plastic Trim Cover 15 Inch 1244010424 A1244010424 | eBay

You can get aftermarket caps in MB 8-hole style like this - Mercedes Wheel covers 15" by TSW | eBay

I've seen bundt style caps in 14". Maybe they come in 15" as well.

The late 170 cars and the Adenauer 300 series cars had 15" metal covers. I now have an incomplete set for the 170, but they are a bit dinged.

Because of the clips on these hubcaps, they may not fit well on the modern 15" hubcap.

Believe it or not Citroen DS21 hubcap looks very nice on the MB 15" hubs. It has no brand identification, it's more like a moon cap.

This Pagota site shows the pin that hold on the small center caps.

You are so right my friend.

I am offered a set (with 123PN; unrefurbed) with hubs for $600 + shipping. Shipping alone to where I am would cost me another $200. All in all should be $800.

There was a set of 15" steelies with metal caps in NC mts last fall with w124 offset stock from a euro model for only $200obo.
Not sure if he scraped them in the end; at the time they were too far away for me to "collect" and didn't fit my w123s.
Thought I posted a link back then, I will be sure to share the details sooner next time!

From my knowledge, 124 steel rims are not direct fit to 123. 126 steel rims are.

I have 8 or 9 15" hubcaps for Mercedes. My car has steel rims from a 126. The four first I got from a car that was a wreck, then I lost two of them a summer. At the same time I got 3 new from another wreck. Some time after this a neigbour solid me a set. Normal driving I use some cheap plastic hubcaps.

The wheels are obtainable and can be had from the classic center. I don't think they cost a lot. The early style hub caps are hard to come by.
