Rant: How hard is it to mount and balance new tires for crissakes?

So i go to Firestone to mount the HANKOOK MILEAGE PLUS II this morning. So when i drive away, i notice an annoying rubbing with one of my new tires. So I drive back and they look at it and tell me that it's making the rubbing noise because my rotors and brakes pads need to be replaced all around, huh? Now I know that is not the case and the manager tells me there's nothing they can do without me buying not brakes and rotors and earlier I told him that I was driving to Boston for the weekend 3 1/2 hrs away. He tells me to be careful and that if I do not change them now at least change them in Boston before I come home! Selling by fear. So I was so disgusted I left and later in the day I take off the left rear wheel and noticed that the inside sticky weights were scoured and obviously was making the rubbing noise. I dash back there and explain my findings and of course, they fix it and offers me 2 free oil changes because of the inconvenience. Damn, do they take everyone for dummies and look to fleece people?

I also notice on my receipt that they suggest changing the valve cover gasket for $94 in parts and $110 in labor? WTF? Do they always triple the part price to fleece people? Do I look like a housewife? No wonder I like to DIY.

Oh brother.....you must not be married or you would have never uttered the 'housewife' slander. And you must not have any appreciation or understanding as to how difficult a job being a housewife is, especially if kids are involved.

Whatcha talking about Willis? I am married with three children. What you don't realize is that many auto repair and service entities prey on woman because they assume they will swallow whatever bull they give them. My example is typically however their success in scamming you is much higher if you are a housewife. This remark is not slandering housewives, it is pointing out the bias that auto service centers employ.

So a tire store that knows less about MBs than I do about the inner workings of North Korea's government served you some smoke and mirrors.

I appreciate the *disgust*, but are you really that *surprised*?

Glad you got it squared away before those "brakes" flew off on the drive to Beantown.

First Mistake

Doing anything EXCEPT driving by a Firestone Franchise and Laughing Wildly.

They are in business, strictly,to Fleece ANY available life form who's unlucky
enough to enter their location(s).
BadYear Too!
Meineke has the dubious distinction, locally,of carrying the "Torch of Shame".
'College student of the female Type got Towed there (From I-95,20 miles away)
with brake "noises".They sold Her a complete "Brake Job" including new Calipers
and Rotors!
'Vehicle was a BMW and the Only problem it had was a missing anti-rattle clip.

Should I take them up for their 2 free oil change offers? Or will they sabotage something on my 300D while they have it on a lift? Should I enter their wolf's lair?

Why ?

If you can verbalize your concerns about "Their" Sabotaging your Mercedes,
would you EVER,EVER,EVER Risk the Mercedes ???

They've already demonstrated to YOU,they're not trustworthy.

[No Matter what we "Claim" to be true.]

"Fool me once,It's Your A$$"
"They NEVER get a Second Chance!"

Youse gots some kinda Disability?
(Para-Plegic, Quadra-Plegic,Over 100Years of age?)

Changing your OWN Oil (And other necessary Lubricants) is NOT just R+R-ing
fluids,It also allows you to Inspect other Operating Systems whilst Under there and Prevent Catastrophic Failures later on.

Me...sitting in 'Big * Tires' in Norman Oklahoma some years ago with 'her' at the counter.

'Her' says ''I have brought the car back..( 1960 something Nova 4 door. Straight 6, bty. not the 2 door V8, before anyone goes apoplectic.) because it shakes at 60 mph.''

''Okay'' says desk guy. I'll have it looked at.''

History: I had installed all 4 shocks and upper/lower ball joints, wheel bearings, inner A arm bushes, sway bar bushes, tie rod joints 2 weeks earlier so she could get 4 new tyres...all from Palace Auto Supply.

I see it driven over one of those low level lift ramps and wheels come off the ground.
With wheels all off, tech comes into store and whispers, ( to what turns out to be the manager,) for a few seconds..

Manager calls out as to 'who owns a white Nova ?'. 'She' turns and approaches the desk and he says..'' It appears you have a lot of suspension problems madam. I suggest we install what's required and then your 'tyre warranty' will not be declined due to other mechanical defects.''

'She' asked...'' what all needs doing ?''

Well ma'am, seems you need shocks all round and new drums and shoes.....of course to get our national warranty you need to have wheel cylinders too."

''Just a minute'' She says, and beckons me over. When he saw my uniform and shop name on it, he went bright red and started to shuffle the paperwork. ''Would you explain to my husband what you just told me?'' 'She' says.

''Errrr, (cough ) let me check this with my mechanic... just a minute..." and left for the work shop.

I see the two of them conferring and pointing to me through the glass. He returns and says " Well, there seems to be some confusion, we may have got two cars mixed up"

I told him he needs to stop lying and loud enough for the 8 people in the waiting room to hear. I told him there was no 'mix up' just you lying theivin' people taking advantage of a female customer. ...and no customer of mine would ever go to this shop in future and neither would we.

Then we saw the California Sears documentary with hidden cameras 'Wall Jobs' and wiped off fuel filters etc.

After 22 years here in my shop, I have had to fix so much stuff 'fixed' or 'repaired' by 'iffy lub's' and other Quik Fix places......engines seized with no oil or filter, oil drain plugs dropped out, filters unscrewed, steering joint nuts loose, antifreeze in the power brakes, power steering fluid in the windshield washer bottle...even brake pads installed, metal side to rotor ! All kinds of hair raising things, It's not surprising anymore.
