The stock W123 tire is actually 195/70/14.

14 x 6 inch: 195/70/14 (w123 300D stock)
15 x 6.5 inch: 195/65/15 (w124 300TE stock)
15 x 7 inch: 205/60/15 (w123 15" bundts on w123 300D)
16 x 7 inch: 205/55/16 (w124 16" CLK lightweights on 300TE)

The steelies that came on the early cars are 14 x 5.5 inch. I ran 195/70/14 tires on those.

Didn`t some of the early 240`s come with a 175 X 14?

Our 240 came with 195`s when we got it (used) and replaced them with 195`s on the 5 1/2" Light Alloys.

My 85 300D had 195-70-14 when we first got it and I now run 205-70-14. made a big difference with the handling.

Our 84 300SD has 195-70-14. they seem too small for the vehicle.

Yeah, the 195-70's fit really nice on the car. If you shop you can get Michelin's for under $100. Ride is great.

I have the factory black alloys too. The reduced unsprung weight improves ride and handling.

The old car rides better than the new one.
