Question Quick Symmetry / MXV4 Questions

Hello:

During a recent business trip, I had a tire emergency and was forced to put a pair of Michelin Symmetry (195 / 70 R 14) on the front of my W123, a 79 300CD. I have the same size MXV4s on the rear.

I was VERY FURTUNATE that both myself, and my car were unscathed by the incident. Luckily there was a Wal-Mart just off the highway, and I could get the tires quickly replaced, but they could not match my MXV4s.

Is this any cause for concern? Are these tires rated so differently as to observe caution with this configuration? Should I replace the Symmetry with the MXV4 or the other way around? Can I just let them be? What about rotation? Is it okay to eventually have the Symmetrys on the rear and the MXV4s on the front?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
J

J,
As far as the mixed tires and rotation it should not be a problem.
I do not think you will be street racing the 300CD.
Just keep the MX4's on the same axle.

As for which to replacement I think you are in the best position to judge the tires for yourself unless the MX4's are well worn.
I have the Symmetry on my 85 500SEL for over a year and am happy.

When I bought the E320 it had MXV4s on the front and some non-matching brand on the back. It handled fine, but it always bugs me to have non-matching tires. I just don't like the way it looks.

I replaced the rears with a set of MXV4s a couple of weeks ago. It feels exactly the same.

If it looks okay cosmetically, you should be fine.
