My 3 wheeled benz.. :(
One of my horrible conti's finally gave out on me. was hoping to squeeze it until april. unfortunately the inside sidewall, decided it was going to give. it has a nice big gaping tear ont he inside, not a scraped kind of tear, but a tear that appears ot have happened from age.
Tire is lost, so I now have the 15" factory wheel ont he car. Looks good with the factory wheel, but its still got 3 16's. How long should it be ok to drive with the spare on the car? I know its a full size normal tire, so I'm not worried baout that, but i am worried about it being a 15" vs a 16" are there any adverse effects? I want to hold off until I get my tax return, before I do anyt ires or wheels, unless the back left goes out. I dont have a problem shelling out for the 2 tires especially at $70 a piece, I would just rather not. Alon

Ashman,
I would be woried more about the difference in the sidewall stiffness than the wheel size. If you drive very carefully you should be able to wait untill you get your tax refund. The main difference will be the tires cornering ability and reaction in emergency situations. With the odd wheel on the rear is the best of a bad situation. BE CAREFUL. I would hate to read that you or your great car was damaged because of a $70 tire. Looks like a great time to do your wheel/tire upgrade. If you expect your return soon why don't you just charge it now and pay it off when you get your return. Most cards don't charge interest for 25 days and the interest would not add up to much anyway while you are waiting for your return. What is your piece of mind worth? Umm I would, but unfortunately my Credit cards are unable to be used.
I figure the tire wont be much different, its not like its a 17 to a 15, its only an inch, and car is very stable even at speeds witht hat spare on it. I've been testing it. if I could find some factory 15" wheels for cheap with tires that have decent tread, I'd buy those, sell my 16's that I hate anyway for cheap, then wait until I can get the new wheels and tires. New wheels and tires will pretty much cost around $1200 so I'd rather wait until A, I've saved up some extra cash, and B, tax return comes in. I'm what you would call a miser when it comes to money. I like spending it, but I hate spending what I don't have by using credit. I try to save the credit for emergencies only. or for when I take out ladies to dinner. Alon

If the overall height of the tire is the same, no problem. If the 15" tire is shorter, you'll be wearing your differential since the axles will be turning at different rpms. Just something to consider...
