190e rim/tire questions

I have a box stock 1985 190e 2.3 8V with original 14X5 rims. The car currently has 175/70/R14 tires. It is now time to replace the tires. I was hoping to put 195/60/14 tires on the car but it seems that 195/60 tires need a 5.5" minimum rim width. Is this true? My next choice would be 185/65/14 which should fit the rims fine. Also, will either of these tire combinations cause me issues if I install lowered springs (1.3" or 1.75" drop)? Any help will be much appreciated.

If you want to keep your stock wheels, then switch up to 185/65/14s. A Nice set of more sporting 14s like the Dunlop SP Sport A2 H-rated would be nice and value-priced. If you are thinking about lowering though, I would honestly say those 14s are gonna do anything for you...think about a used set of 16s of the CLKs, C-class, SLKs or something or even 15s off an older w124...but lowering in 14s just don't make sense....it seems like your car would be to undertired for the suspension....my opinion.

190e tires

Thanks for the reply. For the 14" tires I was planning an to use an all season or snow tire. For summer tires I am planning to take your advice and try to stuff 16"s in there with a mild drop of like 1-1.3 inches. I don't want to invest too much time, effort, and money in this car.. I plan to upgrade to an E430 in 6 months.
I may keep this car only for goofing around then.
