15-hole 16's on W126

My 85 500 SEL came with 14-inch wheels.
I would like to update to 16's, but keep with the traditional look.
I know 15's are readily available (new/used) but am having trouble getting good info on 16's.

Are 16's available (off an older SL)?
Does anyone have suggestions for a good source if 16's are available?

Does anyone have pic's/links to photos of their W126 to try to convince me a newer wheel style (more readily available in that size) is the way to go.

Grazi!

I think they look really good with the 16" 8-holes maybe you could try 215/55/16 instead of 205/55/16 with the W126.

Cheers,
-Holson-

The 15 slot 16x8s came in 2 offsets that I know of. The most common are off the early W129s and have an ET of 34. The other offset is ET22 (I think). You may be able to run the ET22 wheels but spacers are probably required for the ET34 ones.

They look nice on the W126 sedans. I have a set of the 15-slot 16x8 ET 34 chromes on my W116 with 25mm H&R spacers.

Thanks for the input.

Holson - I like the 8-hole look too. And they would probably reduce brake dust hassles as well. Can get those from TireRack - right?

Did either of you post a pic in that long thread of this site?

Also, now that I have confirmed the 16's exist w/15-slot: does anyone have a good source? I susect these have been peeled from many a wrecked-slash-upgraded R129's and somebody out there is handling the resell market.

I have never heard of these 15-hole 16" wheels... These wheels maybe?

Anyway, I found the 8-holes to be very easy to clean (had them on a W124).

If I were to mount those on a W123, I'm guessing that I'd need spacers too, yeah?

I have a set of OEM wheels for a 129.

Two of the wheels have tires on them. Pierelli P600 225/55/r16 that are nearly worn out and I will remove them before shipment unless you want them. They are very clean with very few imperfections. I know they are 16 inch and I am not sure but as I remember they are 8 inches wide. I might be wrong about the width. I can check. Anyway they are MB OEM not replicas.

I am asking $ 300 for the set. Shipping is on you.

Let me know if you are interested.

Dave:

I'm really impressed with the images your camera takes. (I like the wheels too, by the way ). Particularly the close-ups. Can you pass along what kind of camera you used for these pics?

Thanks,

Interested - Yes!

Those are what I am searching for.

Dave:

A few questions

1. These are all from the same car? What year was it?
2. Can you tell me what the stamping reads on the back side of the rims? That should confirm the width.
3. It looks like you have the center caps, and are providing those with the wheels? Do you have the lugs? I am not sure if mine are long enough, but I could get replacements easily enough if need be.
4. It looks from the (excellent photo's there is a little road rash on the edges, but the clear coat is in great shape. Is that a fair assessment?

Please email me directly with a phone number I can reach you and we should be able to work out a deal.

Thanks again - Michael

And Luke (if you're out there) - slash - anybody....
Tire recommendations for these wheels.
I would favor more of a touring tire than performance.
Also - spacers .... yes/probably/no?
And does that mean for certain my lug bolts will not work?

Michael,

I tried to email you but the board said that you do not allow emails. You might want to change your profile settings to allow that. So I have to post the answers in public.

A few answers;

1. These are all from the same car? What year was it?

Not sure I bought them from ebay and all I know is that they were owned by Tony Dorsette the football player.

2. Can you tell me what the stamping reads on the back side of the rims? That should confirm the width.

Number is 8Jx16H2 ET34 Benx PN# 129 400 01 02

3. It looks like you have the center caps, and are providing those with the wheels? Do you have the lugs? I am not sure if mine are long enough, but I could get replacements easily enough if need be.

Yes caps are included. I have no lugs. My standard lugs from my 420 sel's worked fine.

4. It looks from the (excellent photo's there is a little road rash on the edges, but the clear coat is in great shape. Is that a fair assessment?

Yes you are right. The rash pictures is the worst there was. Two of them have none at all. Clear coat is perfect.

Numbers are 713 329-9100 w 281 955-9405 h

My camera for those who are interested is a Sony MVC-FD91. It is no longer made to the best of my knowledge.

FYI, these wheels will clear the early cast-iron 500E front calipers. Also, even though harder to clean, these wheels actually provide better air-flow over the rotors.

Too bad the offset won't fit the wagon. It would make our wagon even more stealth.

Yep. My wife has an even higher class, she's KE6JSC.

The wagon has a nice Kenwood 742 VHF/UHF transceiver.

Check it out at:

I will call you tonight.
Got in a rollover accident the other day which stinks.
Good news is everyone is OK and it wasn't the MB.
Bad news is the Ford Explorer is totaled.
Anyway - I have a new perspective on those rollover reports that were shown on TV.

Michael
