classic mags for W124
I'd like to purchase this set of Intra Mags 15x7 with an offset of ET23 !! Tires to be used are 205/65x15. Can someone please advice if this will work on my stock 260E? The mags are circa '80s (classic yeah) and were previously fitted on a 190. Thanks!!

I think the offset will be way wrong. My 87 300E w124 has a stock offset of 49. I am running wheels with an offset of 36, and the wheels are moved out 3/4", flush with the body fender metal. According to the chart at http://toy4two.home.mindspring.com/offset.html , an offset of 23 will move each wheel 1.35 " further out from the hub, and protrude from the body. I think 36 is about as far as you can push the offset envelope.

think about it like this.
My car has 16" Wheels with a 7.5" width and an offset of 35. This combo, is basically as flush with the outside fenders as anyone should want to go on a w124 chassis car. Now you take an inch off the wheels, that brings them 1" more inwards hopefully. then drop the offset by 12 mm, and the wheels will end up with the following compared to my car. The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 18mm MORE The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 6mm Take a look at my car pics on my site, you will see they are pretty much as far out as you would want, and those wheels you are looking at will stick out 6 mm more than that, wont be as wide, and are 15's. My suggestion is to upgrade to 16" wheels, 16x7.5 et35 to et41 with 205/55/16 tires. That size will look great on the car and work well. the tires will be wider, and look good. If sticking with 15's, look for some 15" 8 holes from a later e320 or like JCE's from a C class or some sportline wheels in 15", with the 205 tire size recommended as the sportline size. Alon

Classic 80s
Those wheels would be just fine on my 126.
Email me if they won't fit yours and I'll put them to good use.

classic 80's wheels
It seems that in general, there are 2 sets of offset for MB. The low offsets (including this wheel) are for older cars (108, 116, 123 and 126) while the higher offsets are for later model cars (201, 124, 140, etc.) There could be minor differences between models but I think that's the general rule.
I did the offset calc thing and it came up with the wheel sticking out 31mm from the current wheel position. 31mm doesn't seem much really...it shouldn't be too noticeable since the wheel is 1/2" wider than my original? Anyway, I couldn't visualize it so I'll take this thread's word for it and forget about installing it on a W124. However, I'm still buying it (sorry FineOlBenz) for a future install on a 123/126. Aftermarket wheels for old Benzes are hard to come by and I don't want to be stuck with OEM. Thanks everyone for the advice..! |

Don't ask Don't receive
I found a set of stock 14" factory wheels with a new set of Michlins for $125 last weekend so you know. (Mounted and ballanced all 5)
