Hi-Power

Wow! Your car looks great in Brabus. Who did you purchase them from?

Do you have the Pirelli 7000, or 7000 supersport? Someone once told me that those tires are real soft, and can be burned through very rapidly. Do you have an opinion on that?

Thanks everyone for all the great words of advice.

Jerry

IMHO, 17x7.5 should have an offset (ET) between 35-41.

ET35 will be flush with the fender, so you'll have more street garbage thrown onto the fenders.

ET38-41 will keep more of the wheel inside the fender.

Our 1988 360TE AMG has Mercedes wheels in 17x7.5ET41 and fits perfectly. I run 215/45R17 Nokian NRZi's. 225's also fit without sticking out.

I also have 16-inch (16x7.5 ET 41 Mercedes 8-holes from Europe) wheels with 225/50R16 rubber, and it is less harsh riding than the 17's, but turn in is slower due to the taller sidewall of the 16-inch tire.

Thumbs up

DSinger,

I could not help but read your posting regarding 17" wheels on W124 cars. I have to say that I totally disagree on your opinion since I have seen many great looking W124 riding on 17" or even 18" wheels.

I recently upgraded my E420 with 17" Lorinser wheels riding on 225/45/17 Michelin Pilot Sport tires. The riding is still as smooth and confortable as it was with the OEM wheels.

I have attached a picture from my car. Please do not be affraid to retract on your previous statement.

Chris, very nice looking car.

I like the wheels alot.

Have you lowered the car at all and done any suspension mods? If so, what did you do and how do you liek the ride of the suspension?

Have you thought of painting out the bumpers and side strips? Monotone would look great on the car, unless thats just a reflection of the ground in that very shiny paint.

Alon,

Thanks for the compliments on my car ! Yes, I upgraded the suspension with Eibach Sport springs and Bilstein Sport shocks. I have also changed the front and rear spring pads to two and three bumps respectively.

I am also planning to monotone the car after I get a front spoiler from WALD - Japan.

Other additional future upgrades include:

Avantgard Grill
Sport Muffler
Audio System
Renntech Air Intake with K&N filters
Renntech Performance Chip

17" opinions needed please for '87 260E

Hi All,

It appears a lot of you have different experiences with 17"s. What i'm planning to put on my '87 260E that's lowered with H&R (or Eibach, don't know how many pads) springs are...

17x7.5 Carlsson 1/6
225/45-17 ET (not sure, but looking at 35)

Can someone advise me on the proper offset so I do not have to mess with the fender. I read something like 38-41 would be ideal.

Luke recs 215/45-17, but that seems to be a smaller Diameter tire than OE which i'd rather not have.

Please comment on any of the things i wrote... More is appreciated.

thanks,

sjsfiji

ET35 on 7.5x17 may still rub if lowered aggressively. If you can the same wheel with an offset of ET37-ET41, this would be better.

rubbing

I'm trying to find out if the carlsson 1/6 avail at tirerack comes in ET35 or ET37 from Luke. Just FYI, my current setup gives me ground to fender apex clearance of F = 25 1/8 in. and B = 25 3/8. Just so you have an idea how much my car is lowered. Please advise...

Anybody else want to comment? Please do....

thanks all,

sjsfiji

That's fairly low. I would consider camber arms for the rear, unless you don't mind excessive inner tire-edge wear.

Also, the higher offset (e.g., ET37-41 vs. ET35) will bring the tire more inside the fender decreasing the chance of rubbing.
