I am trying to decide if I should powder coat the factory bunt wheels (not going to paint them and have it flake off), or get a new set of wheels. As a note, I don't want the other wheels on tirerack.com that others have installed. I get wheels and tires at a wholesale price, so it is about the same price to redo the factory wheels, or buy new ones. I know that the 16" combo will not have as "cushy" of a ride, and that they will weigh a little more, as well as being slightly taller. I like the classic look of the factory wheels, but I think that I would like the look of the 16's as well. Anyone seen a setup like this on a w123? I am hoping for a little bit of an updated look, without taking away from the classic benz look. What do you guys think?

Those Helos are a bit hard to visualize on a w123. Is the offset close enough to do without spacers? I see 21mm available, should work right folks?
Also have to get correct, maybe even custom, lug bolts for the mercedes?

Biggest issue I have seen on some 16" rims is tires that are too high or thick (not official verbiage). The tires get gouged by the fenders when hitting small bumps during cornering. I am sure you can find the bet size tire to match.

If the spoke gaps show much open space, our typical old and rusty rotors plus dusty calipers are not that attractive to show off IMO. Could paint the calipers too.
Worth a try for some flare!

On the original bunts, they do feel rather nice and match what you expect to see on this chassis. Even with a nice powder coat, you need to do some major polishing on the lips of an OEM set, as they always seem to have plenty of curb rash.
What color coating were you considering?
I have seen some nice black with polished silver lip before.
Always wondered if one could coat part or all of the "spoked" area on bunts with a body-matching color? May look ridiculous, but that is what dreams are made of.

I don't know about the offset/backspacing for fitment. I am kind of trusting tirerack on that. I certainly don't want any rubbing issues. Good point on the lug bolts - would have to confirm that. I have new rotors front and rear. They supposedly have a coating to keep them looking decent. The calipers have a few miles on them. Painting them with the Helo's would probably be necessary (would probably just do black). I found a pic a while back of a wagon (i know, not the correct word) with wheels like this that looked good.

The factory wheels are in pretty good shape. I think 4 out of the 5 look nice. May need a little "smoothing" in a spot or two. I was thinking of coating them either a bright'ish silver, or maybe something closer to body color (grey). I'm not sure what powder coaters can do with masking off and polishing. May have to ask them about that. I will defiantly post what I end up going with. Will probably be late next year. Hoping to get the interior done by spring, and painted next summer.

I am throwing around the idea of going with the factory option steel looking aluminum wheels, and hubcaps.

What should I pay for the wheels, and for the hubcaps (in good condition)? I really don't want the steel wheels.
