New 18x10J rims wont fit in the rear, HELP!

My new rims (F: 18x8.5 & R: 18x10) just arrived yesterday and to my disappointment, the rear rims stick out too much! No amount of fender roll is gonna help, and it looks like I've got to get the tire guy to ship the rear rims back and try to get an exchange for a narrower rim. The front 18x8.5 fits fine, no spacers needed and no rubbing against fender, and will take on 235/40/R18.

I need help here from fellow members. My car is a 126 and the rear rims are of offset +23. The other available rim widths come in 9.5, 9.0 and 8.5. I am prepared to do fender roll, but I'm not exactly sure how much help it would give.

Which width would be the safest choice? And which tire size should I go along with?

Pls advise soon, thanks!

Have you driven the car very hard and fast with aggressive cornering and braking with those new front wheels? That is when the fender/tire rubbing become evident.

Hi Kevin,

I should have mentioned that the apparent "fender rubbing" is based on a visual inspection with the rims mounted on the car. No driving is done.

Hey Merv, you really should check BEFORE you buy Try this link to determine the effects of different widths and offsets:http://www.mindspring.com/~toy4two/offset.html

Good luck returning the rims!

Dean, I did do my homework!! Perhaps it just isnt enough, but I'd a friend who had 18x10J with 255/35/R18 tires in the rear of his W126 and he did not have any problems! And I thought what worked for him will naturally work for me, gee, looks like it aint true afterall.

I was down at the tire shop today to return the 10-inch rear rims and to place a re-order. My new set will comprise of:

Rims - 18x8.5 (F) +23
- 18x8.5 (R) +17
Tires - 225/40/R18
- 255/35/R18

I hope this combo works fine!!
*keepin my fingers crossed*
