wheel lug nuts

I just got some old style bbs 16x7 et11 wheels for the R107. I am in need of lug bolts. How far should my new bolts come out from the surface of the inner wheel. More easily put, how far do they need to go into the rotor.
I m thinking 35-40mm. I have to get the caliper to it and measure to be sure. Also are they cone or ball? It is kind of hard to tell looking at them for some reason. I'm pretty sure it is ball but just want to be sure.

Are you moving from Bundts to BBS? If so I guess all you need to do is measure for a difference in wheel thickness.

I don't know if the BBS share the same ball type shape at the bolt / wheel interface (!) - I use this ball shape on the standard Mercedes wheels to shape the end of sleeves in control arm bushings. You wouldn't want to get rid of that functionality and replace with cones now would you????

Chris, place a lug bolt in a hole of one of your current wheels and measure the thread projection beyond the back of the wheel. Presuming the wheel and lug bolt are the original issue for your car then you will need the same thread projection for the BBS wheels. Closely inspect the lug bolt seating surface in the BBS wheels to determine the contour required for the new lug bolts. Contact BBS if you're still unsure of what size/style lug bolts you need.

Thats what I was planning. Thats it. Ill use the spare for measuring purposes.
Yes I'm switching from Bundts to BBS.
After closer inspection it is cone indeed. That means most O.E. Bolts wont work I think. I'll be calling around to see what I can find locally. I'll bet they are pricey. I will look over on the F- bay for some. I think locally I may be in for a Ben Franklin. I may scour the boneyards for some from a BMW or something.
Parts people just want vehicle application. I can try a tire place i suppose. I'll just have to go in I suppose.
Ill have to keep five of the old bolts for the bundt spare.
Anyone want some chrome bundts.

Chris, every MB lug bolt that I have seen has a ball seat. So they won't provide a proper fit in a BBS wheel with a conical seat. New lug bolts will be pricey. You're on the right track searching for used lug bolts at a salvage yard. If you acquire used lug bolts be sure they thread into your hubs by hand (i.e. threads are cut cleanly with no interference); otherwise, you're liable to damage the female threads in the hub and when torqued they may not grip the wheel tightly. From what I read online a 107 vehicle uses a 12mm x 1.5" long lug bolt.

generic

I ordered some from fbay 24+tax.
I will give these a try. Does anyone see any issues with these. They are from a wheel shop in the L.A. area.

Chris, the lug bolts you ordered look nice. Check the thread projection past the back of the BBS wheels before mounting them with the new lug bolts to ensure the thread projection is the same as the original lug bolts with the stock MB wheels. If the thread projection is proper, the shoulder contour matches the BS wheel hole seat, and the new lug bolts screw into the hubs easily you have a winning combination.

Not to be an alarmist, but the low price concerns me. MB lug bolts typically cost $4 or $5 each ... same for Febi Bilstein lug bolts. I doubt that you want to spend the time/money verifying the tensile strength of the new lug bolts, but I follow the rule "You normally get what you pay for".

kinda have that feeeling too

I may try them out. I have just found a brand called RAD that are made in Germany cold forged / heat treated for 50$. I'll likely go for those. I'm not sure if i'll return the cheapos. They are arriving today and I will put them on tomorrow since I'm busy.

fittment/terminology/on site ,on sight

The tiremen have to see it. They get this kind of questions everyday.
They have to show them to one another to hear judgement.
It doesnt pay to sell you something that wont work.

If you bought it elsewhere they are all wondering why you were not properly advised, and set up with the right gear.
If its something they dont sell, they can tell you why and who to see.
They are concerned you may squeak one by them.
They dont REALLY know your benz.

Ever watched a court case where some guy has wrong stuff,
and wants it put on?
Somehow, he still wants it to be , that someone should see it, and tell him.
the sales guy goes to lunch, and the lube guy gets told to put it on. etc etc
wiggle wobble scrape...OMG did you see what they did to my car?

Take it to the best guys and ask in person, show them. Do research by all means: but judgement at the time of assembly takes years to teach.
After my research, I can use only stuttgart made wheels and 195/60R15
is the lowest profile. (same fun lowest price.) Just have to accept that they
made my 190E eurobenz like they did because they met their designed intent already
