W124 16 inch 8 hole @ ET40?

Hi,
I have a set of 16x 7.5 8 hole wheels I want to swap the original 15 hole 15 inchers on my 88 300ce. First question is, are these factory 8 hole? I tried looking for another set with the same ET40, but haven't found. The set I have have the "Made in Italy" stamp, however no sign of a part number. The numbers that are stamped are "7.5Jx16H2" and another stamp with "37P06".

Questions: Could I safely run these on my 88 CE? If so, what tire could I use? Also, what bolt size should I use, as the OEM bolts are a bit long. The bolt seat and thread are same as OEM.

Thanks!

jaytee601, measure the thread projection of one of your original lug bolts beyond the back of a 15-hole wheel. You will want the same thread projection with the 16" wheels. Confirm that the lug bolt hole diameter and seat contour in the 16" wheels are the same as those in the 15-hole wheels. You should also confirm that the 16" wheels are hub-centered. Mount a 16" wheel (without a tire) to a front and rear hub on your 1988 300CE to check that they clear the calipers, steering and suspension components. I cannot give any advice regarding what size 16" tire will fit. I do know that 205/60R15tires fit our 1991 300CE just fine. They have a nearly identical circumference as the stock 195/65R15 tires so the speedometer reads accurately.

check Discount Tire site...

a quick check on Discount Tire's web site shows some "Plus 1" size recommendations of:
195/60-16 205/55-16
205/60-16
215/55-16
225/50-16
