hi...i have a set of 8.5" wide anteras that i am going to run on my 89 300e (W124)...despite many responses that the wheel setup wont work on my car, i have heard experiences from people that have indeed run 8.5 et35 wheels on their w124's without any problems...however, i am still on the careful side of this issue and want to run the smallest width tires as possible. what is the smallest size that i can run on the wheels, and still keep the integrity of the tire? i am looking into 215's or 225's. i almost am positive that 235's wont work...thanks...

ben

Well, I think 235/40/17 (17x8-17x9.5) will will rub as well, and 215/45/17 will not fit on a 17x8.5 (requires a 17x7-17x8) so I guess the only option is 225/45/17 (17x7-17x8.5) that will fit properly on the rim.

Good Luck.

- 2001 C-Class - Maybe (if 190E sells)

Charlie is correct for most tires because a large percentage of tires in the 215/45-17 do not fit an 8.5" rim. There are a couple of tires that have enough side wall versatility to work on the 8.5" rim. The Dunlop SP Sport 9000 will fit on the 8.5 " rim. The 225 will rub !!!
Thanks, Luke
