Which wheel?

The car is a '97 CL500. I plan on moving up one size wheels to 17" The wheel that I have chosen offers two offsets, 20 and 40. My car asks for 34. Which one do I choose, 20 or 40?
Thanks guys,
Anziani

Info

Not sure how much help I'll be, but I'm looking on Discount Tire's website for your options but they don't show a CL500 for some reason. They have an SL500 which has stock 16 inch wheels and 225/55 tires. Is that the same wheel and tire combo for your CL? If so, they show both 20 and 40 offset will work on 17 x 8 wheels. The wheels with those offsets are manufactured by Voxx. What wheels are you looking at?

Parshoot, Yes the CL started in '97 but most show as a S-500 or C140 in my case. Stock is 16" but I want to move to 17" by VoXX MG3 and Conti 235/55/17 tires. That wheel is available in 20 and 40 offset while my car calls for 32. It seems to me that 40 is closer to 32 than 20 How think you?

Here is the Tire Calculator. Outside of the height, they are almost the same.
Tire Size Calculator - Discount Tire Direct

So offset 20 or offset 40?
Thanks,
Anziani

I just realized that the values are not there. Compare a 235/60/16 to a 235/55/17
Thanks
