lighter tire vs wider tire on 7.5-inch wide wheels?
I have a set of 16x7.5 ET41 8-hole wheels for the wagon.
I can run 205/55R16 which should yield a 9-inch wide contact patch (per Tirerack) and weigh 21-lbs/tire; OR I can run 225/50R16 tires which will yield a 9.3-inch wide contact patch and weigh 29-lbs/tire. Which one would your run? Is a 205/55 just too narrow for a 7.5-inch wheel? TIA, :-) neil 1988 360TE AMG 1993 500E |

I would go in between.215x55.A tad taller than
the two sizes but since your wagon is lowered, it won't be noticeable.Just an opinion. |

I was thinking about the 215/55's but was wondering if they might be too tall.
What I like about the 205/55's is the weight savings. 8-lbs per corner or 32-lbs overall for unsprung weight. Is that noticeable? :-) neil |

Hi Neil-
Are the weight (lbs) capacity specs across all these sizes similar? I'd first ensure that the particular tire sizes you are considering can handle the weight of the wagon. I'm running 205/55/15 ZR Dunlop rubber on 15x7 BBS on our '88 BMW 325is and feel that its a good tire size to handle the characteristics and weight of the car....possibly this tire size (side wall strength) wouldn't be adequate for your super wagon? just a thought in a different direction for ya regards -fad |

Fad- yes I've considered the load rating, and the min. rating I need is 91V.
All the tires I've been looking at are between 91V and 93V. But I've got to be careful, because some other 205/55R16's are rated at only 89V. :-) neil |

Being Honest, if you want some grea rubber, try the 215/50/16 BFG KDWs. And are closeslt to the Sportline size of 205/60/15. Calculate it, they make more sense then a lil taller 215/55/16, which might also rub if you lower your car.

Well I just love toying with cars, without going to extreme. Yeah brakes, is extreme, but still thats a good extreme to have :p I'm all about handling...so I can finally out take an M3. Got as much power as I can from the engine wihtout droping tons of money, and all I want is windows tinted, an exhaust, and a grille, and I'm done.
Just want to start on something newer, so I can rationalize spending more money on it Thats about it. Thanks for the compliments guys.
