W220 offset

Hello,

I'm trying to put rims on a 01 S600. 18x8.5 in the front and 18x9.5 in the rear but the offset is confusing me. The fronts would be a +30 and the rear +35. My questions are what size spacers will I need? Do I even need spacers? Would the wheels look funny at that offset? For what it's worth I'm planning to use 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 tires. Thanks

Steve

Question

Hey Steve, I'll try to help, but not sure how much I can. I'm on Discount Tire's website and it says there are two models for your S600. #1--a base model with 17" wheels stock; and #2--a sport model with 18" wheels stock. Which model do you have? DJ

Hey DJ,

It has the 17" rims. Thanks for the help, I just don't want the rims to stick out past the wheel well.

Okay, DT's website says those wheels with the noted offsets should work.

For tires, stock are 225/55/17...correct? 18's are Plus 1 so 225/50/18 & 245/
45/18 will work. Thus your 235/40/18's should be okay, not sure about the 265/
35/18's though?

DT's website will enable you to plug in different tires sizes to do a comparison between the size, circumference, height, etc in order to get a handle on exactly how many mm/inches you are changing with various tire set ups. If you are interested or can't figure it out on DT's website, PM and we can work thru it. I can tell you the key number when changing tire sizes is when the change increases the circumference by more than 3%, then the larger tire probably won't fit.

That's some great info, and I feel I have a much better understanding of offset now. I read an older thread that people were running 20" rims with 275's @ 35 offset and had no issues at all, so I'm pretty sure I'll be ok. Thanks DJ
