Question 2 New tires: front or back esp. if going to the track?

I have a new pair of tires to replace my rears.
The old fronts are worn to 4/32 in the center, and 2/32 on the outside edge.

Do I install the new pair of tires on the front or back esp. if going to the track in 4-days?

Or bite the bullet and get another pair?

Thanks,
:-) neil

Depends on what type of tracking...I thought new tires actually handle worse due to the tread being full. If its a dry day, I say stay with the old ones. The more slick like they get, the better the traction. I would say if you have to though, get new ones...But be careful about breaking them in, I think it really does matter. I have 5 BFGs, learned the hard way, cause the 2 front ones were put on about 2000 miles after the next 2, and theres almost a 1/10" difference, because one pair I broke in on the highway, and the other on back roads. That combined by rotating and all, each tire has a different tread lenfth now :p

Good luck

Run your worn tread tires for the track...brand new tires will feel wierd and will chunk the taller tread with any sustained hard driving...unless they are new, shaved, track specific tires. Just my 2 cents.

Yep, ran the old tires in front, and the wagon handled wonderfully at Willow Springs.

Passed Porsche Boxster, Boxster S, BMW M5, Subaru WRX wagon, and a Ferrari 355 spyder! Mind you, not in the straight-away, but coming out of turn 5-6 and down the back straight.

The 500E on fairly new BFG KDWS tires passed all of the above both on the back and front straights.

I would imagine the KDWS are great handelers, they just sound almost tooo good to be true, how would you rate them.

The KDWS handled well for what they are, a High-Performance All Season Tire with a wear rating of 400!

These are NOT the BFG KDW or KD which are a Summer Ultra/Max performance tire.

Actually, I think the harder compound works well with the heft/weight of the 500E.

The G-Force line of tires have a reinforced sidewall which contributes to its handling.
