Different Wheel Widths/ Same Size Tires ??
I have two AMG monoblocks in 17 x 7.5" for the front and two 17 x 8.5" for the rear. I was told that 235/45-17 tires would fit on all four. Is there a downside to doing this ? Car is a 1999 W210.
Many thanks, Ken |

I know Tirerack recommends using 255/40/17. Its probably because 265/40/17s (even though a perfect match) might rub and 265s might not fit on 8.5" wide rims.
235/45/17s will fit on an 8.5" rim, but I don't see the purpose of it. You still wouldn't be able to rotate your tires cause the wider wheels would not fit properly in the front. I would use 255/40/17s in the back, and 235/45/17s in the front. Just my suggestion for a w210. A nice tire to try is the Yokohama AVS dB available in both sizes too. Good luck. Charlie.
