I found a wheel that I definitely want to use on my 16 valve...but it is 18" x 8"...I know that people have used 18" x 7.5" wheels, 215/35R18 tires, and H&R springs with no problems...my questions are:
1)How much modification is necessary if I use 225/35R18 on 18"x8" wheels with H&R springs? 2)Will I have less problems using 215/35R18 in the front and 225/35R18 in the rear? 3)Is it safe to use a 215 width tire on 8" wheels or is 225+ necessary? Please do not respond with a simple "not recommended" comment. Thanks in advance, Peter |

Well here it goes. First, as far as tires go, you should be able to get 225/35/18 with no problems if you can get the 215/35/18 on them anyhow. My logic, If you are able to replace 215/40/17 with 225/40/17 and still have the lowest pad and H&R, you should be fine (I know a couple people with that setup now, and that was on a 17x8" replica rim too.) Off course the fenders must be rolled.
The reason I would not go with 215/35/18 is because it does not have the load carrying capacity, however the 225/35/18 from Toyo do because they are reinforced. I know Yokohamas all so make that size too. They will also help protect your tires. Since the car I mentioned above had 17x8, I don't see why the 18x8 she be a problem. That is my rational. While I can't give a guarantee, I would definitely get the fenders rolled, and try the 18x8. You should be able to get by with 225/35/18, if not then most definite with the 215/35/18.
