AMG SL 2PC vs. EVOII Weight Comparison

Luke, Obviously this is apple vs orange comparison, but am looking for the weight of the wheels mentioned above.

Since the SL 2pc is 18" @ 8.5 and 10" vs. EVOII is 17" @ 8.25", still curious.

Secondly, fit within 500E is known for EVOII but haven't seen any with the SL 2PC except Japanese Only Mercedes magazine.

Any input will help, TIA.

aren't the evo the same as those found on the E500 limited?

I think Rainmaker has these installed on his car

Hey willie,

I have EVO II wheels on my car, but they are the 17x7.5" version. Someone on this board a while ago told me that the weight of my wheel was 19lbs. So the 8.25" version shouldnt be too much more than that, maybe another pound. Hope that helps.

Giancarlo:

Thanks! Evo II wheels are lighter than I thought, I just emailed Bekkers to see if they have info on actual weight of the 8.25". I guess I'll have to go to the local dealer to find out what and if any weight info they have on the AMG SL 2PC.

I find it very interesting that very few websites list weight information on the wheels they carry, considering how important weight is to the total performance equation.

Has anyone found such a site?

I too have noticed that almost NO ONE except those wheels used for racing (e.g., Panasport, OZ-Racing, etc.) like to list how much their wheels weigh.

IMHO, unless you have multi-piece AMG wheels, they are HEAVY boat-anchors that LOOK GOOD.

And that's one of the aftermarkets dirty secrets. Make it look good, and don't worry much about weight. Also, most are pressure cast and not forged, so usually not as strong as OEM.

Neil,
You're right...that's what prompted me to query on it to begin with. Since I'm new to the Benz world, I was curious to see how much those 2 piece AMG rims weighed. I'm used to using the forged rims for the 911,original Fuchs alloys were 16-17 lbs. each and very strong. The Fikse FM10 3 piece rims I'm using now are also very strong. I go over the berms on the track all the time and have never bent one!

I have never had luck getting bekkers to answer email messages so you may want to give them a call. Just my two cents.

I've ordered things from Bekkers, and the only way to do business with them is via telephone.

Once, I did email the owner, and things started to turn . . .

Willie- how much were the FIKSE wheels for your 500E and was it a long wait? How much do they weigh?

Thanks,

:-) neil

Neil,
Perhaps I wasn't clear on my post. The Fikse FM10 rims I have are actually for the 911. They are 8" and 9" x 17 and WITH 235-45 and 255-40 weigh approx. 43 pounds each for the front and 45 pounds each for the rear. I haven't weighed them w/o tires, I will be replacing the tires in a couple of months in preparation for next season's track events and will weigh then and post here. Prices were approx $2400 for all 4 rims. Pls see www.wheelenhancement.com Even though they cater mostly to the Porsche crowd, they will sell rims for other makes. Because of the volume of Fikse wheels they sell, they can probably get them quickly. I believe they are located in Culver City. The Fikse website, www.fikse.com provides a lot of info on their rims including standard offsets. Pls note that you can order custom offsets directly from Fikse, as well. BTW, in checking my receipt, these prices were from 3 years ago.

I have not made a decision on the 500E, I'm still favoring the 2 piece AMG SL rims since I don't plan to do any track events with the 500E but desire improved performance from the larger tire patch and looks on the highway.

Thanks Willie. I thought you had sprung for some custom FIKSE wheels for your 500E.

Weigh the AMG 2-piece SL wheels, I believe they are incredibly heavy. I think Guido's 3-piece AMG "Silver Arrow" wheels are light however.

Maybe some nice BBS or another set of FIKSE's instead.

BTW- your 500E looks great, your 911 even better.

How did you upgrade the front grill? A kit, or a custom cut Avant Garde grill? Please post pn#'s or which year car the grill came from, or the vendor selling the kit.
