ECS Tuning's Alzor 803 on a 124 ch
I wanted new shoes for the coupe so I ordered in a staggered set of Alzor 803 wheels from ECS Tuning back in April and after a lengthy wait they came in today. The fronts are 8" and the rears are 9", with a 2" and 3" polished lip. The website list them as fitting the car but I had a bit of interference with the caliper on the front. We had a 10mm hub centric spacers that I used to get clearance but I plan to get a 5mm spacer in to try as the wheels are a bit further outboard than I'd like. That said , I love the look.

Thanks! I have a set of Sportline springs that will drop the front a good bit and the rear a bit less. They'll tighten up the gaps but I may have to get really creative to get the clearance necessary to run them with these wheels. I'm half thinking to maybe just run the rear springs to level out the car. Lots of ideas.... not enough time.

Revisited the fitment of these wheels this evening after work today. The tires have been rubbing the front fenders on just the very outer edge of the tire. I pulled the 10mm hub centric spacers and went down to a 3.2mm spacer. Had to do a little grinding on the outer edge of the caliper to correct some minor interference. Not enough to even begin to be concerned about the integrity of the caliper though. I have a spare set of calipers that I could pull the pistons out of and see just how much metal there is in the area that needs clearance. I think there is a good chance I can bolt these wheels straight to the hub after machining the caliper for clearance. They already clear the front fenders with the 3.2mm spacers, but they are pretty crappy spacers and I'm not too keen on running them long term. Not to mention it already looks better getting the front wheel a little more tucked in under the fender.

I'm on the fence about having the fenders rolled but that is as far as I'd go. As extreme as it may sound I'd much sooner machine the calipers before fiddling with the body work. I'm just sooooooo not a body guy. 3mm could ruin a body line but it may not be enough to completely remove the cast in "ATE" logo in the calipers. I'm also really motivated to get rid of the spacers and bolt these wheels straight to the hub. Going from 10mm to 3mm spacers made a noticeable improvement in steering feel.
On the other side of the coin I have a set of 320mm brakes that I was hoping to get on the car. I'm going to have to take some measurements but I'm not very optimistic about it at present.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, what I'm talking about are the nylon spacers that go on the fender bolts to gain a bit of wheel clearance.
I'm with you on body work. That's a craft I'll leave to the pros. Would love to see more pics when you get it dialed. |

Hmmmmmm That looks like they just push the fenders out at the bottom a smidge. That could be do-able. I'll have to check price and availability on that kit. Thanks for the tip.

IMO the kit is overpriced. I used nylon spacers of the correct diameter stacked and glued to the desired thickness and SS bolts from the local hdwr store. The bumper also needs to be spaced about 5mm more than the fender to maintain the stock lines because of how the panels flex out, so it actually works better than the AMG kit which has one size of nylon spacer for both bumper and fender. |

After a bit of searching I decided to go ahead and make my own fender spacers and installed them today. Not that big of a deal really. I cut the spacers from aluminum bar stock, two 14.5mm and two 15.5mm with a 30mm OD. Since my rub was at the rear of the fender near the top of the cladding, I used the slightly thicker spacers at the rear and the thinner up front.
The untrained eye wouldn't notice a difference but there is a bit of gap where the front of the rocker cover sits under the cladding. Being as the rocker cover is as flexible as the cladding I'll work on a spacer to get the gap closed up. The up side is that this will give a bit of a flared body kit look.

Here's a pic as she currently sits. Over the past week I've gotten three call outs from strangers on the coupe. Two at stoplights and one in the grocery store parking lot. I hadn't expected that it would get so much attention.
With the fender spacer kit installed, I've only had one incident where the wheels rubbed. It was a high speed sweeper with a dip that all but bottomed out the suspension. The rub was slight, but enough to make me want to do better. So, I've got a fender roller on order from Ebay. The fronts I don't expect will take much to get clearance. The rear I'm nervous about. There is a slight wrinkle in the right rear quarter that you can barely see when the reflection catches it right. I'm nervous to start pushing on the metal in that area. I'm afraid of what is hiding under the paint, but..... I'd also really like to get the sportline springs and bars under it.

The coupe looks great, I love the color combo! I used the same method of fender spacing/rolling to help clear various sets of 19" and 18" wheels on my wagon before realizing nothing looks better than early Monoblocks. Be sure to use a heat gun to warm/soften the paint before rolling. I was too impatient on one side of my car, and the cracked paint reminds me every time I walk by. The other side went much better with some heat. No cracks.

I have only pushed on the left front fender with the roller. It looks like that fender was replaced at some time and has a little less clearance than the right. Probably added 8mm of clearance judging by eyeballing it. Even with heat the paint cracked but the paint job on that fender isn't what I'd call top notch. A little touch up paint hides it well enough though.
