Unhappy Please confirm my tire size:

I currently have Michelin 235/45-17 mounted on AMG MonoblockII 17"x7.5" with ET35 on a W124.

I presently encounter fender rub in front. Checking with TireRack, their interactive selector recommends 215/45-17.

1) Would this eliminate problem of front fender rub?
2) How much of a difference would 235 down to 215 mean? look?
3) Would a size of 215/40-17 be even better?

Help Appreciated!

My brothers W124 diesel has 235/45/17 on E430 Sport wheels, and they dont rub. Maybe just have your fenders rolled. Why throw away good tires?

215/40/R17 is the recommended tire, but thats 2cm 20mm less than the 235s that you have on it.

I bought 17x7.5" with ET35 and 225/45-17 (Kumho 712), with stock suspension these tires did rub (the plastic shields) so I asked the shop to put on 215/45-17, with 215 they don't rub. Anything bigger than 215 would require rolled fenders + spring compression kit + fender flare kit.

Surf to my page: http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Downs/1039/mercedes/ . Download 'mbna040_025a.pdf' which has a list with wheels & tire combination for W124, W129, W140, W201 and W202. Then download the work instruction for your car: 'wi332_model_124.pdf' .

The MB No. are: Spring compression kit: B6 602 0074 , Fender flare kit: B6 602 0073 . Good Luck!

God Dag Patrick

I have had no problems with the setup of 17X8 and 225/45-17. However, you are correct that the front will rub - but on my w124 they rub on the fender - thus, needing to be "rolled."

Happy motoring!
David
