It is a 1995 Lexus ES300. Stock size is 205/65/15. He need ample snow traction. I was thinking along the lines of the Michelin Pilot XGT H4, since he does drive in the mountains up north. Other than that, maybe Michelin MXV4 Energy Plus or Dunlop SP Sport 5000. Thoughts?

MXV4 Energy Plus is the clear choice if he wants more touring features (ride, noise, etc) For more sporting the H4 is okay but your are really better off with the Energy MXV4 Plus on a touring type car. Seems like the sipes cross cut into the SP5000 would wear out over time which would leave it with significantly diminished snow traction.
Hope this helps...Lee |

Lee is correct the Energy MXV4 Plus would be a tremendous tire for your Grandfather. Consumer reports even wrote an atricle that stated the Energy MXV4 Plus is the best all-season tire on the market for ride quality and snow traction.
