Talking

You Firemen make me hot!

That easyoff did work like a charm!

I thought it would etch the remaining paint, but it didn't seem to.
This was on almost 20 year old paint!

The outcome was well worth the effort!

insomuchas LOL

I did the Easy-Off thing recently on my 15-hole painted front wheels. It worked well on one (passenger side), where brake dust was encrusted on the surface, but not for the other (driver side) where the dust was apparently embedded more deeply, and also the wheel was stained.

What works pretty well where oven cleaner fails is 1500-grit sandpaper. That will remove stains and stubborn brake dust quite effectively. Although 1500 grit sandpaper leaves the paint/clear coat smooth to the touch, be sure to follow-up with 2000 grit paper or rubbing compound to really smooth and seal the surface. Finish with 3M finish restorer to restore shine and luster.

What’s sad is that I recently refinished these wheels – for the second time -- and they are again being destroyed by dust. Oh well….

Switch to PBR deluxe or deluxe plus. You just spent good money on refinishing your wheels why subject them to that corrosive dust. People always say hey clean them everytime you come home but who has time for that especialy in the dead of winter in NY, not me. I switched to PBR/Axxis pads and I haven't had a problem with dust corrosion since. The dust didnt bother me, it was the corrosion that really ticked me off. Not even waxing stops it. With the deluxe pads I can leave my wheels unclean for a whole year and wipe the dust of with a dry cloth with no corrosion left behind. The pads are quiet, they go on easily, cheap and they are organic. Best kept secret as far as I'm concerned. Sometimes love for OEM can blind people to some very good solutions out there.

OMG!!!! I just realized that I was the one that started this thread back in 1999. Have I been that long on Mercedesshop?!! LOL Well I did finally find a solution and it was PBR/Axxis Deluxe as I stated above.

Wow, this is too cool

I will do that.

I am currently using Axxis Metal Masters which have been great, and much less harmful than the Pagids I had previously. They produce more of a red/brown dust which does not stick as much, but it can stain pretty badly.

In 1999/2000 Tire Rack had Mill Miglia machined alloy 15 hole rims -- not painted. I keep kicking myself for not buying them.
