CLK rims on a 300E? Take a look..
Personally, I can understand why this person is upgrading wheels on his CLK -- they just don't look good at ALL IMHO.
BUT, has anyone ever seen a set on a 300E? How do you think they'd look? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1851680456&rd=1 I'm looking for the ever-elusive set of polished aluminum wheels for my 300E. I've been looking for a set of the '95 124 special edition 8 hole wheels forever but no luck. If anyone knows someone who is selling a set, I'm paying good $$ for them. The recessed C class aluminum wheels are too "racy" looking for my tastes. Thanks for your opinions!

Paul:
I have seen a set of these on an early 300E here in Orange county, and they don't look bad on the 300E - better than they do on the CLK - but to me they were even more 'racey' looking than the recessed 8 hole satin polished rims from the C. I thought about them for a while. Looking through the MB wheel catalog at the time I saw that the recessed 8 hole polished wheels were also offered for the E body in 16", but when we bought the C230 we ended up getting the 6 spoke sport wheels for our C, and installing the C wheels on my 124. (Two sets of wheels were going to be too much to buy at the time, and nobody wanted the C wheels or the 15 hole e wheels, so for convenience I put the C's on the E). Performance also offers these 6 spoke sport wheels as replicas for the E, but that is really too racey on the E for my tastes, but looks 'natural' on the C230! Below is a pic of my 124 with the machine satin polished 8 hole C230 wheels, followed by the same pic with Fireworks pasted images of the Highly polished CLK wheels to give you an idea of what they look like on this body style. Hope this helps - the 124 body is a tough one to match up to wheels that look 'right'.

John:
I'm not going to even ask how you did that, but that is amazing -- thanks so much! I like how they look on your E. I don't know how MB decided to stick these on a CLK but to me they have a vintage look to them, and DO look better on the 300E. I will ponder this decision, as there are a couple of CLK sets for sale on Ebay currently. BTW, just for curiosity's sake, how much are the SE '95 8 hole polished aluminum's from a MB dealer? If you don't know, do you happen to have the p/n for them, and I can call to find out. Also, sorry I couldn't make the Newport gathering My friend had Turf club tickets to the Del Mar race track that afternoon that she didn't tell me about until I arrived. But, I'm glad to hear you all had a good time. What a beautiful part of the US you guys live in. As you predicted, camping was booked solid everywhere so I just stayed in San Diego and made some day trips to different areas, including 113 degree Palm Springs. That mountain climb to the cable car there was scary -- my temp needle was at around 110 but didn't overheat -- that was a fun trip! San Juan Capistrano, Temecula, Santa Barbara, San Diego (Del Mar, Solana Beach, La Jolla), San Bernadino mountain drive ALL beautiful places. I'm envious of you guys. Thanks again John... Highway 74 view, how 'bout them twisties! Jalama Beach overlook at sunset -- beautiful!

I only checked on the prices for the 98 C class wheels in 6 spoke and 8 hole (stock) types. They were both the same price! Best price I found from a dealer was $205 per wheel for either the 15x7 8 hole or 16x7 6 spoke sport - Caliber Mercedes in Anaheim. Everywhere else was $250 per wheel up. I don't know if Caliber included lug bolts or center caps. I would seriously look for the wheels used before putting out that kind of money for either the C/8 hole or CLK wheel. Many C/CLK owners don't like the stock wheels on their cars and upgrade, and either wheel looks better on the w124 than on their original application, IMHO. BTW, the C class 8 hole wheels on my car use the exact same lug bolt as the 15 hole stock wheels, which saves a few bucks! I don't know how deep the holes are on the CLK wheels or the shape of the bolt insert, but lug bolts need looking at to make sure the correct amount of thread is present for the hub, and the shoulder matches between the wheel and lug bolt. Sounds like you had a fun trip! Next time we should meet up and do some sights and dining. You coming back any time soon?

Why do you have to post pictures of the beach? I miss it so much.
Anyway, I like these CLK wheels better on 300Es. I am actually selling mine. Take a look. I have more pictures.

8 hole style 15" rims 4 sale.
I have a set of 15" - OEM 8 hole style, with an offset of ET37 and it came off a 96 E320. I bought it for $300 but willing to sacrifice if the offer is good. Please let me know if you're still interested. I also have pics if you are interested. Thanks.
