18" Wheels vs. 16" on my W140

I am looking to replace my standard 16' Wheels and Tires on my '95 S500 with 18" AMG 5-spoke 220's.

Will I be sacrificing ride comfort and/or handling with this change?

Any general comments on the upside and downside of a change to these beautifully styled wheels including what would be the best tires???

Thanks.

My dad put 18" on his SL600 over the stock 16" and we both think the 18's ride better than the 16's. Handling is definately improved, look is improved too.

But for both of us, the 16's were too squishy and soft feeling. the 18's really give youa good road feel, and ride comfort to us is better.

16" vs 18"= definite differences

The W140 chassis is engineered-tuned from the factory w/ 16", and naturally provides a net outcome :ride/handling/ braking characteristic

18's w/ bring certain ride/handling characteristics- depends on personal preferences if you like it or not

>all mods have trade-offs

Best Max performance tires: S-03, Pilot Sport, Yoko Sport

Best High Perf tires vs. pricing, etc.= tirerack.com

good luck

What about the OE wheels?

Hello,
Did you go through with the wheel change? If so, do you want to sell the OE wheels?

Thank you.
