Question How to check for tire wear

Aside from being able to recognize a BALD tire, how do you guys observe tire wear? To my untrained eyes I can't tell what I'm looking at! Can someone tell me what to look for?

You can also buy a tread depth gauge for about $3.00. I couldn't find one locally so did an internet search and bought a bunch online. This way you can check the exact depth of your tread periodically, and can even estimate how many more miles you have before you reach the wear limit (absolute minimum of 2/32nds if I recall; 4/32nds if you are more conservative like me).
