tires for a 90' 4-matic

I have a 1990 300te 4-matic, and I am looking for new tires. I am running 235-45-17. I am looking for good all around performance, but handles really well in dry and wet weather. I use the car as an everyday driver, I also take it up skiing in the winters, and I am what you could consider a more aggressive driver. All input is greatly appreciated.

I've had excellant results with Nokian tires (made in Finland). I have two sets of the Hakkapeliitta NRWs which are an incredible all around tire...made my 300E (non-4matic) drive thru snow like nobodies business. And works equally well in the rain (I live in seattle, too).

For high performance I have a set of Nokian NRZi which makes my 300CE Sportline really handle.

Unfortunately, Tire Rack doesn't carry Nokians, but the Tire Factory stores do. There are many Tire Factory affiliates in the Puget Sound area...I recommend the guys at East Hill Tire Factory in Kent...they know their stuff and can get all the different Nokians for you at pretty good prices.

Thanks for the reply, I will look into the Tire Factory. How do the Nokian's do with wear? Price?

I measured the NRWs on the 300E the other day. They were slightly more than half gone and I had 30,000 miles on them. I project at least 45,000 miles on them. They were roughly $460 mounted, balanced and tax.

The NRZi's are a lot more...$700 total. I don't have the car here right now to check wear, but they are wearing much faster than the NRWs... but of course they are a high performance tire, "W" rated (169 mph sustained!!), so that is to be expected. I think last time I checked, I projected at least 30, maybe 35,000 miles for them.

4matic tires

Ranger,

Have you looked into Dunlop SP5000 tires? This is a Z rated M+S tire that wears well, provides reasonable snow traction, and can be used year-round. They are not too expensive. Tire Rack carries them.
