Hmph, just the other day, I was asking opinions on the Pirelli P4000 tire which I was considering using as a replacement on my '80 300SD when I am ready for a new set. Well, it just so happens that today one of my Michelin Energy MXV4s blew out. Since I'm kind of fanatical about stuff like this, I have decided to get 4 new tires rather than just put one new one on. So I am following the advice of others and staying away from the Pirellis but have decided on the Continental CH95 Touring. I'd really like to go with the MXV4 again, but $400 is just too much money to go around on again. Anyhow, I have my two rear MXV4s up for grabs. They have approximately 21,000 miles on them and I'd let them go for $75 for both. I'm keeping the other front one to mount for a spare. So, while I'm on the topic, anyone have any opinions on the Conti CH95? I'd like to know before I place the order. The Continental CH95 will not set the world on fire but it is a very cost effective tire with a 60,000 mile wear warranty. The ride quality is reasonably acceptable with not that much road noise. Where it falls significantly short is in the all-season area of snow traction. I think when you consider the price and the wear characteristics you will be happy with the tire.

The Conti's will ride well with very little noise. My biggest gripe with them is that they never feel "stable" and frequently feel "twitchy". (steering requires frequent/constant minor corrections) This on the same car that felt very stable on other tires. (yes the alignment was in spec) Decent budget tire for noise/ride though.
Hope this helps...Lee |
