will 245 tires fit on my stock 500E wheels?
Hey guys, I'm going to get bridgestone S-03 tires. I don't know much about wheels or tires. I was wondering if I could fit 245 on either the front or the back? It's for my 1992 500E which has the stock 16" wheels. What do you guys think? I have 225 front and back right now. Also what profile should I get? I'm thinking about dropping the car an inch too. 40 profile? Thanks!

A 245/50-16 should match the diameter of the stock tire to within four-tenths of one percent. And that size is reliably reported to fit by several 500E owners.

would 245/40/16 be cool too?

actually from what I understand bridgestone doesn't make it in profile 40 for the 245 16 inch, I guess i'm going to have to settle for the 45 profile. Should that be alright? I know there are more 500E's out there, help me out please!

As you shave the sidewall profile, (i.e., from 50, to 45, to 40, etc.) if you are staying with 245 for each, then you are introducing some speedo error, which at 60 mph, can be as much as 5-7 mph on the extreme end of the tire profiles
The tire profile is the tire width-to-sidewall ratio. In other words, for a 245-50-16 series tire, the sidewall height is 245mm x .50, or 122.5 mm. If you are keeping the same wheel diameter, and tire widths are in increments of 5mm, then you would have to go to about a 270-45-16 (which I don't believe exists), or 305-40-16 (which I KNOW doesn't exist)!!! Now we are getting outside the parameters of the OEM wheel!! Those hypothetical tire sizes generally get into 17 and above inch wheel categories, which is not what you are trying to do. Consider tracking issues when you bump up tire sizes...I had an 86 Conquest with 225-16s and bumped up to 245s, only to experience shimmy problems, and the tires had a tendency to follow grooves along the roadway...not pleasant.

also, if i plan on lowering it, aren't i gonna need lower profile tires? But I can't go lower profile? Or if I do it'll mess up my system?

If I understand you right, i can get 245 front and back, but if I do, they have to be 50 profile correct? Anything above or lower will screw it up?
