I have ordered some 17*8 and 17*9 RH ALurad rims for my '92 500E. I am looking for tires 245/45/17 front and 275/40/17 rears. What are the best choices. Price is not an issue, at the moment I favour Michelin Pilot Sports.
Most of my driving is in NY, is there a better tire with perhaps a more flexible sidewall?, or another better all round tire? I don't drive many miles and so not being able to rotate these tires will not be a problem. David Hendy '92 500E 61K miles |

The Pilot Sports are an exceptional tire but the Dunlop Sport 9000's offer better ride quality which would be more noticable during highwat driving. The Pilot Sports will corner marginally better in the wet and a good deal better in the dry.

Hello David:
I am running the same size Pilot Sports and find the Michelins to be quiet and comfortable. I actually run them at 34 psi front and 35 psi rear. ------------------ Dean Albrecht 94 E500 99 ML320 |

I would recommend against the SP9000. They are not very high performance and with quality control questions. I got rid of my with only 2000 miles. I am very happy with the Yokohama AVS Sport; good ride, very quiet, and great performance. If performance is not the highest priority and ride is; the Michelin XGT Z4 is good. I use the Z4 during winter for the occasional snow furries. But in the wet, the AVS Sport is by far the best of the three tires. Good luck. |

It was your post that caused me to go to King Wheels. Do you have any problems with the rear 275s rubbing? Any complaints with the tire/rim package? I would email you directly but do not know your address. You can email me at dhendy3697@aol.com. David Hendy '92 500E 61K miles |

Hello David:
I will update my member profile so you can e-mail me using the toolbar link. To answer your questions; there are no problems with rubbing on either the 9" or 10" rear rims...RH Alurad has had both setups TUV tested and approved. I just didn't like the obviously wide look of the 10" rims. Good news...with Noah's help I was able to post some pictures of the car on my newly created web page at: http://www.homestead.com/need2speed/home.html I hope you like the look ------------------ Dean Albrecht 94 E500 99 ML320 [This message has been edited by Dean Albrecht (edited 06-24-2000).] |
