Dunlop SP Winter Sport M2

Dunlop SP Winter Sport M2

Does anybody have these Dunlop's on their Mercedes, if so what is your opinion of them? I have a sent of the older Bridgestone Blizzacks W15 and they're just to squirrelly on dry roads, a great snow tire for heavy snow country.

Thanks for any opinions, timreid

I have some Dunlop Sport A2's on their way, I should get them on Thursday the 21. They have a 7.2 rating in the snow, which is a really damn good rating for an all season tire. I have Sumitomo HTR+ on 17x7.5 EVO II wheels right now, but I wanted to keep those wheels from getting mangled by the salt and sand in the winter. So I bought a wheel restoration kit from Griot's Garage and I finished my OEM wheels this weekend and ordered the tires for them. I will have them on from Thanksgiving until probably Easter every year, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money on winter tires because I live in Southern CT and we don't get a ton of snow, I still wanted to be able to drive my 16V the way it should be driven when there isn't snow on the ground. Unfortunately I won't be able to help you much until after this winter season.

hi, i had the dunlops on my (former) w202, on borbet type h wheels. due to light winter last year, cant really attest to snow performance, but on dry at least, they weren't bad grip wise and were only a bit more rumbly than my stock pirellis. good luck! j.

Dunlop Tires

Hey Jr. Benz, where did you get your rating info for the Dunlop tires? Always good to save the custom wheels for summer, and how did you’re refinishing project go? I'm thinking about doing my old set, appreciate any advice you can give in refinishing the wheels.

I got the rating from tirerack. If you click on the picture of the tire it brings you to a page with a bunch of general info and a chart with the ratings in just about every area you could think of for rating tires. As far as the repaintng job went. I purchased the kit from Griot's and they came out pretty good. I not raving about it, but it was what I expected. The silver paint they give you is a different shade of silver. It looks a little sparkly rather than the nice metallic look that they come with. It was a fairly simple job once you finish cleaning them. The cleaning takes the most time by far. I used about 15 Brillo pads for the whole job to grind all of the brake dust and paint off. They look decent, better than they did before, but not as nice a new OEM wheel. I had them mounted today and when they were popping the bead off on the old tires they rubbed the lip on the front of the wheel up against a rubber brick and it took the paint right off the lip and scuffed one of the spokes a little bit. I was pretty pissed, but its not a big deal because I wasn't as careful as I should have been throughout the entire process. If I were to do it again I would use about 50 more brillo pads and get every last bit of paint and brake dust off, it really makes a difference.

Dunlop Winter Sport

Sorry Pete about the paint chipping off, (a real Bummer) but its difficult to prevent that from happening. I was going to try the Groits or Wurth, but since you were not completely happy with the Groits color, I'm going with the Wruth paint, let you know how Wruth matches. I'm going to order my Dunlops today, these tires have a high review in Germany, sold as the M3, a little different tread design, but they place first in the latest German, Auto Motor Sport magazine, and also very high in the German ADAC auto club test. It's amazing how these new generation of winter tires perform in the snow, their tread design do not have the wide cleat space for snow bite, but they work very good. Pete and Jago lets update each other about the performance and what our opinions of these tires are after usage, it would be a good update for the forum on these winter tires.

I am using the winter Sport M2's this year and have driven them repeatedly in snow last year on a friends car .... they offer very good snow traction for a high performance winter tire and also offer good steering response as well as wet traction
