Lightbulb 500E 16-inch '8-hole' alloys ... what do you think??

What do you think??

The Original 500E wheels are a 16x8 ET34 with 225/55 tires on them. (Each tire is 654mm overall diameter).

I was wondering if this same stock 16-inch alloys, 8" wide, could use a 245/50/16 tire; been 651mm overall tire diameter.

Would that work for the stock wheel sizes of my 500E? Is there room for 245/50 /16 on 8” wide rims? Has any one use it??

Ricardo

I believe Mercedes specs an 8.25" rim width with 245/45R17 tires on their EVO II 17" wheel upgrade for the 500E. Don't know if we should assume that extra 1/4 inch is necessary?

I do know when I was running 275/40R17 rear tires on 9.0" rims, which is marginal width for that size of tire, I was seeing abnormal tire wear and had to switch to 10" rims.

before you run out and slap overwidth tires on your rims, check the tire manufacturer's specs. there IS an optimal range of widths for a given section width.

too far to one side or the other (excessive over or undersizing) and you will compromise the tire's ability to keep it's bead
