What Snow Tires Are You Using?

I'm trying to make up my mind here. I've got a '94 E320.

What are you using and why? Anyone had a bad experience with a particular tire?

Thanks.

Snow Tires

Nokian Hakkapeliitta Q's ... Great tires, period. Used them on my Supra which is a REAL bear in the snow for years and they make a great difference on the E420 ...

I run Dunlop winter sport right now on the '94 and the '99 E300 and they are OK but I think the Pirellis I had two winters ago on the '94 were better than the Dunlops. Nokian Hakk's next winter though based on overwhelming comments by people who use them.

I've had Michelin Arctic Alpins on our BMW 750 for going on three winters. They are now cupped and noisy in front. I am not super impressed by those. The Dunlop Sport M2 is a top rated choice, though I haven't run any yet.

Nokian had a great website, but I couldn't find a dealer close to me. I live outside of Philadelphia PA. Where can I find them, and around how much should I be thinking on paying per tire?

Otherwise I was leaning toward the Artic Alpin since I've liked Michellins in general.

What advantages would the dunlop give me with my particular car?

Thanks for the responses.

I ordered mine from a upstate NY dealer and had them shipped to MD. I'll see if I can find my old receipts. I think I paid about $105ea back in 1999/2000

I'm running Hakka Q's on my 82 240D. They seem better than the Blizzaks I formerly had (but only one serious snowfall so far, so not much of a test), plus they should be much longer lived. The Blizzaks were pretty much useless after 10K miles. I'm expecting the Hakkas to last 4 times as long (will have to report in 4 years!).

Many people in Michigan run Arctic Alpins and are satisfied with them. One good friend is running them now and thinks they are equal to the Blizzaks which he had formerly.

I haven't talked to anyone who could compare the Hakkas with the Arctic Alpins.

One other note on the Hakkas--the Nokian web site lists "distributors." If you call some of the distributors, you'll probably find dealers nearby who aren't on the web site.

I called the area distributor and found two dealers within 5 miles. Both primarily advertised "Cooper" tires, and I hadn't even looked at them before this. But I got very good prices from both--about $90-$95 less than Arctic Alpins for a set of 4.

WRS - The Dunlop winter sports are good in the rain too. They don't make much road noise and have very good lateral stability in snow. They are a little challenged on short steep hills though.
