Hello. I was little confused about suspension terminology. Are shims the same as spring pads? The shims don't determine ride height, right? Only spring pads will determine the ride height(of course, springs being the main factor). Okay, can M-benz dealers tell what size spring pads you have on your vehicle just by knowing the year and model of your car? Or do you actually have to look at the ridges on the side of the shim??pad?? to determine what size pads you have? Please shed some lights on this subject. Thanks again.

You need to actually look at your spring pad to determine which size you have. Shims are not spring pads shims are used to align body panels and in some cases to adjust alignment angle.

Thank you for clarifying that for me. I appreciate it. Will changing spring pads affect ride quality in any way? Any negative effcts thinner spring pads have on your car? Thanks a lot!

there are only 2 things you need to keep in mind when changing your spring pads ... you will need to get an alignment after you change the ride height of your car and road noise will be transmitted to the cabin of your car at a slightly higher rate (a little more noise).
Thanks, Luke
