OK,

Neither of my Benzes is ready for new tires, but both are ready for rotation - ok, a little overdue, though wear is even. I want to maximize life on them before I call Luke and get some better performance tires for the 190E and get the right size for the 300D (PO put on 195/60-14s, rather than the factory 195/70s).
So, I was brought up in the old school of rotation, where front come back and back go front and the side never changes. I have heard that modern tires should be rotated differently. I think I understand the principle, and have even searched the posts here to confirm it...but, can I hear it one more time for it to sink in.
If the four tires on my car are numbered and positioned:
1 - Left Front
2 - Right Front
3 - Left Rear
4 - Right Rear
My previous method of rotating would have been to change from 1,2,3,4 to 3,4,1,2.
What is the correct rotational scheme of numbers?

Did I make this question too damned convoluted?

Thanks in advance,

If you are running standard tires, not directional performance tires cross the front ones going back and move the rears straight forward. ... 1234 to 4312
Thanks, Luke
