Attention: Larry Bible (balancing question)
Got my Dunlop Sport A2 from TireRack and had them mounted and balanced.
They were balanced on a Hunter GSP9700. Dynamic balance, wheels matched to tires. He told me that 2 of them were perfect. One of them was out 44 foot pounds but he got it to within 10 pounds, the other was out 36 pounds and he got it to within 12 pounds. He said that those numbers were well within specs. It rides very smoothly even up to 85. What do those numbers mean?

44 is too high .... it doesn't matter how close the balance got it ... you can balnce a cube but, it won't roll smoothly .... call our customer service dept. and get a replacement

As Luke said, 44 is too high. The practical limit is about 16 pounds. Matching with 9700 is all well and good, but as Luke says, it's a faulty tire. If you had no recourse like Lukes warranty offer, then the magic done on the 9700 would be very helpful and maybe allow you to live with them, but there's no need to, since warranty will take care of them.
What this number is representing is the variation in road force. It means that there is one spot on the tire that is 44 pounds stiffer than any other position on the tire. You can think of this as a lump in the tire that does not let it flex as much as the other positions of the tire. Hope this helps, |

Thanks, Luke and Larry.
Luke, should I just inquire about replacing the one that is out 44, or the one that is out 36, as well? Second -- do I get any credit for the $ spent to mount & balance? You may email if you wish. Thanks, brookspw brookspw@comcast.net

Hello?
By the way, the one that was out 36 could only be balanced to 16, not 12.

What shop did you use for the mount & balance? I've been using Gateway in Franklin.

They don't have a GSP9700, to my knowledge.Hunter GSP9700 link
I use Rhea Little's shop on Church St. in Brentwood. About $36 for a rotate and balance on this machine -- worth every penny. Tell them that the guy from the mercedes messageboard sent you. He'll know.

As an update -- so far I have been shipped 2 replacements -- both were bad. I'm awaiting a 3rd replacement.
