hello. I am sorry I seem to ask too many questions on the same day=)... but, i am curious as to what it mean to powercoat calipers. How do yo do it? Is that something you do after you paint your calipers like applying clearcoat after a new paint job? Thanks for your help.

Powder coating is a process that sprays an epoxy-like powder onto metal. When the metal is baked, the powder forms a very durable coating, much stronger than any type of paint. Powder coating is done by shops that are specifically powder coaters—not regular paint shops.

Thanks you for your insights. Can you powercoat calipers in any colors you want?(yellow, blue)? can you tell powercoated calipers from "folia tec-ed" calipers? What would look better in your opinions? I am assuming powercoating calipers is more expensive than applying regular caliper paint. Any web links where I might be able to see powercoated calpiers? Thanks again for your time.

Hello AMGCKlass:
I've had several engine bits powdercoated and a set of stock Mercedes rims too. I can tell you that there is a limited selection of colors available and that most large/good plating shops also do powdercoating. With brake calipers, the intense heat caused by the process will ruin any seals so be prepared to do a complete rebuild. The skill of the painter is very important so check to make sure they are experienced. Larger flat, smooth surfaces are prone to more difficulties than the smaller, cast engine and brake parts. Good luck... ------------------ Dean Albrecht 94 E500 99 ML320 www.need2speed.web.com |

Hello Dean Albrecht
Thanks for the great tip. I appreciate it! i guess it all comes down to finding the shop that can do that job. I will do some research first. Thanks again for your time. |
