i'm about to change the rear conti's....i was wondering if pilot sports would work good even if i kept the two contis in the front....the front ones are not that worn out yet so if at all possible i would leave them be....thanks for the help....

Why not just change them all! IMHO, I see no benefit by leaving the Conti's on the front.

i would change them all but the front conti's have a lot of tread left....and spending $259 per tire when i don't have to seems absurd

If you have alot of tread left on the front conti's you probably are not driving your car to aggressively and I think the the Pilot Sport might be a little over kill. You wouldn't want to mix the conti with the pilot because of creating severe understeer. What kind of driving are you planning on doing? Where do you live? I might be able to give you a better suggestion.

you're correct Luke....i don't drive very aggressively especially in the morning commute to work....too much traffic and too tired....but i do drive quite aggressively during most other times....i don't really understand why you would say that since my rear tires wear out faster then it seems that i don't drive fast....its just that i drive fast on freeways such as the 405 or 605 where i do around 115 or sometimes even above...but when i go to work on the 110 then its just bumper to bumper traffic...perhpas it is because i don't manevuer quickly through turns etc...could you please elaborate on what you have said before....thank you so much for your time....oh and i live in southern california....

If you are going to drive fast only on freeways why don't you get some good touring tires, pilot sports would be an expensive overkill unless you are getting them for the illusion and looks factor, which I can dig by the way .
How about the MXM Daniel loves so much or the MXV4. |

Unfortunately, the MXMs aren't made in the size you would need. They make them in your front size, but not in the rear.
Pilot Sports would work better on that car anyways. MXMs work great on sedans. And MXMs aren't cheap either. Many times, they are MORE than Sports. ------------------ 1988 Mercedes-Benz 260E (W124) Euro Headlights 1994/1995 Turn Signals and Taillights 16" x 7J 8-hole (Authentic MB) Michelin Pilot HX MXM 205/55ZR16 Debadged |

You may want to give serious consideration to the Dunlop SP Sport 9000 (max performance 280 AA A or the Bridgestone Potenza RE730 (ultra high performance 300 AA A) and the Pilot Sport. I like the quality of the ride with the 9000's and the cost of the RE730 but neither can out perform the Pilot Sports in cornering or aggressive driving situations. The reason I said you probably do not drive that aggressively is because your car does tend to be very hard on front tires when cornering hard and the CLK's in general wear tire pretty even. Hard acceleration and braking does wear the rears faster than the fronts. So in conclusion, fast isn't always considered aggressive.

thanks luke for the informative messages...i will seriously consider the dunlops and bridgestones....and when i do decide to buy new tires...i will definitely purchase them from the tire rack....one more question...if i do get the pilot sports for the rear...how severe will my understeer be and what can i do to negate that effect.....thanks for all the help again...

It won't be that severe in the dry but, it will be very severe in the wet. In order to reduce or eleminate this problem install the pilot sports in the front.
