...on stock S500 (140) rims with stock 51mm offset?
Wondering if that size will fit without clearance problems.

Stock, the S500 should have 235/60/16s.

Goto http://paspeedo.com/calculator.htm and add enter that stock size as your first one, and the 245/50/16...enter a speed of a 100, so you can see the interrprut the numbers in a percentage basis...

You are more then 5% off...not even recommended.

Now 255/55/16 can be used as a replacement size...but I'm not sure if you will run into any rubbing issues or not...I'd wouldn't imagine so but then again its trial and error unless you want to be the first.

Now 255/55/16 is mainly a truck size tire...so I'd suggest using the Kumho Ecsta STX...its a pretty good tire, and doesn't have a truck style tread pattern like the Pirelli Scorpion Tires do.
