Doing the tire 'thang' Looking for advice
Front Mich. tires are showing what looks like white threads around the outer edge of the tire. Tread is getting low anyway.
I've only put about 10Kmi. on these tires since I bought the car so I have no idea *how* they were treated/cared for by the PO. I've had the front-end aligned since I've owned it so no idea if this odd wear is from previous mileage or not.....but I suspect so. Anyway.....car has Mich MXV (plain 'ol MXV). At one point, I'd planed on replacing them with Yok Avid H4 but now I'm not entirely sure. Requirements: 1. Be at least as quiet or near to it as the MXV's. 2. Give equal or better dry/wet handling 3. Rated min. 40k mi. treadlife Car doesn't see any snow at all so a summer tire (not all season) would be fine....actually, I'd prefer it. Something with slightly stiffer sidewall would be a nice change as well. The MXV's feel a little loose to me. Fire away

I'm using Michelin's MXV4 Plus in 205/60/15's. Since you have a W126 why don't you look into upgrading the wheels with the 15" ones and using 205/65/15 tires?
You have many more choices in that size. If you really want stiffer side wall, I think even 16" wheels look just fine on a W126. I mean it's not a small car! I really like the MXV4 Plus tires. Very comfortable and quiet. However if I had a W126 I'd have bought the 16" 8-hole wheels and put on 225/55/16 tires.

Unfortunately, new wheels are not in the budget right now

Hi Chris,
What's up? My suggestion is to go with Michelin Energy MXV4's in either a 205/70-14 or 195/70-14. Unfortunately, searching for a tire with a stiffer sidewall will likely steer your tire choices in a more performance-oriented direction (bigger wheels/tires, etc.) If you get new tires, make sure to have the alignment checked again. Also, check for any worn or loose suspension pieces. Good luck! Steve |

I would highly recommend the Turanza LS .... it rivals the Energy MXV's in ride quality but, offers better handling, steering response, warranty, tread life, and bad weather traction all at a lower price in most sizes
